9-10 The Fourth Annual Wheelchair Triathlon and Superstar Competition will take place at Bachman Lake on Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 9-10. The triathlon will begin Saturday at 8 a.m. The superstar competition will run both days, from noon to 5 p.m. on Saturday and 9 a.m.

until 3:30 p.m. on Sunday. The triathletes, classified according to National Wheelchair Athletic Association Classifications, will compete in a long course and a short course. The long course consists of a one and one-half mile one- man raft race, a 15K push and a one-half mile swim. Short course triathletes will compete in a three- fourths mile one-man raft race, 5K push and a one-fourth mile swim.

Superstar participants will be required to compete in three mandatory events: slalom (obstacle course), 100-60 splints and a softball throw. The 14th Annual Maureen Connolly Challenge Trophy, an International Team Tennis Competition between the United States and Great Britian for ladies under 21 will be played at the Willow Bend polo and Hunt Club in Plano, on Sept. 18, 19 and 20. This event, sister to the prestigious Wightman Cup, will feature five of the top ranked ladies 21-and- under from each nation in eleven matches played over a three-day period. The International Competition, which alternates between the two countries each year, has included players like Pam Shriver, Ladies Double champion at Wimbledon this year, Kathy Jordan, Mixed Doubles champion at Wimbledon this year, and Zina Garrison for the U.S. and Sue Barker, Jo Durie, and Annabel Croft for Great Britian.

Although this teams have not yet been announced, there is no doubt you will be seeing many players who will be among the best in the world in the next few years. Each year the site alternates between the United States and Great Britian and it is with much anticipation that this International Competition will be hosted by the Willow Bend Polo and Hunt Club in Plano. Adding to the excitement of this official eleven match event, there will be informal matches played between the representatives of the American and British Teams and members of the Tennis Teams at Plano and Plano East Senior High Schools on the Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons before the main event. This competition was inaugurated in 1973 by the Maureen Connolly Brinker Foundation, 20 years after Grand Slam in 1953 and four years after her death. Through encouragement, financial assistance, training and opportunities offered young players each year, the Maureen Connolly Brinker Tennis Foundation helps meet its goal of promoting the sport of tennis in a manner that has made it a fitting tribute to one of the all-time tennis greats.

The Maureen Connolly Brinker Tennis Foundation, was founded by the late Maureen Connolly Brinker and Mrs. Nancy Jeffett, long-time tennis participant and enthusiastic booster of the game. The 1970 recipient of the USTA Service Bowl Award, and the 1970 Texas Tennis Gaswell Award. Mrs. Jeffett, with the dedicted Board of Directors, leads the Foundation in its continuing and expanding efforts to strengthen and tennis and to provide the benefits of tennis for increasing numbers of youngsters all over the world.

Tickets for box seats and general admission may be obtained by contacting the Willow Bend Polo and Hunt Club, 248-6298. Courtside boxes, with four chairs each, may be obtained for $500 for the three- day event. This tax deductible contribution, benefiting the Maureen Connolly Bnnker Foundation is one way you can support this event ami enjoy world-class tennis in the most intimate manner possible. He received Second Team All-District 13-AAAA honors as a senior.

Hinnrichs attended McLennan Community College in Waco for two years and then pitched at Rice University for the following two years. He was drafted after his senior season at Rice in the 15th round of the 1984 June free agent draft by the San Francisco Giants. During his two- year career at Rice, Hinnrichs had a career 18-5 record with a career 2.90 earned run average. His 18 wins places him fourth in the all-time wins list at Rice, and his 2.90 ERA is the fifth best in Owl baseball history. He was second on the team in strikeouts both seasons.

Ralph Kraus is a 1981 graduate of Plano Senior High. He was selected the District 13- AAAAA Player of the Year as a senior. He played four years at the University of Arkansas and was a first team All-America selection as an outfielder as well as Player of the Year in the Southwest Conference during his senior season in 1986 when be hatted, .475 in league play. Kraus holds Arkansas career records in hits at 245, doubles at 58 and walks at 104. He was drafted by the New York Yankees in the 10th round of the 1986 June free- agent draft and is now in his first season of professional ball with the Yankees' Rookie League affiliate in Oneonta, New York.

Steve Piskor is a 1986 graduate of Plano East Senior High. A two-time All-District 12- AAAAA catcher, Piskor holds numerous Plano East hitting records including career home runs (15), career runs batted in (84), and career batting average He also made the Texas Class AAAAA All-state team as a senior. Piskor was selected by the New York Mets in the sixth round of the 1986 June free agent draft. He turned down a full scholarship to Texas University by signing with the Mets organization, and is presently in his first professional season with the Rookie League affiliate in Kingsport, Tenn. in the Appalachian League.

Kirk Killingsworth Kirk Killingsworth is a 1979 graduate of Plano Senior High, who excelled both at the bat and on the mound in high school. He received All-District 13-AAAA honors, and once hit four consecutive home runs over a two-game span. Killingsworth played three years at the University of Texas one as a designated hitter and the final two seasons as a pitcher. He posted a 21-3 career record. A two-time All-SWC hurler, Killingsworth received All-America honors as a junior when his earned run average of 0.80 was the lowest in the nation.

Killingsworth was drafted in the seventh round of the 1983 June free-agent draft by the Texas Rangers, and is now in his fourth season of pro ball. Kevin Renz is a 1980 graduate of Plano Senior High. He was converted to a pitcher during his senior year at Plano and received All-District 13- AAAA honors as both a hurler and outfielder during that season. He was also selected the Player of the Year. Renz played three years at Sam Houston State University.

He also narrowly missed landing a roster spot on the 1984 United States Olympic Baseball Team. The righthander was drafted in the second round of the June free- agent draft by the Chicago White Sox. He is now in his third professional season in the White Sox organization. He started 1986 wr ry with Class A Peninsula and is now Kevin Ketiz with Class A Appleton. A two-time All-District 12- AAAAA centerfielder, Davis was named the Player of the Year in 1985, and also received all-state honors. He holds the single season home-run record at Plano East with 11 in 1985, and set a Texas schoolboy record by hitting four home runs in one game. Davis was drafted by the Cincinnati Reds in the second round of the 1985 June free-agent draft. He is now in his second season with the Rookie League affiliate in Billings. Mont.
