High school senior dies after dropping off his prom date PENN HILLS, Pa. (AP) A high-school senior lost control of his car shortly after dropping off his prom date Saturday. It smashed into a truck, killing the young man, authorities said. Charles Ranallo, 18, of Pittsburgh's Central Catholic High School, died in the collision at about 7:30 a.m. in suburban Pittsburgh.

A passenger in his car, 18-year-old Christopher Thorn of Pittsburgh, was treated for a broken wrist at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. "There was no indication of alcohol. None, nothing," Penn Hills Police Officer Gene Gross said. "The passenger said he looked up, wondering why he was changing lanes. He screamed.

It was too late. "He said he thought that (Ranallo) fell asleep at the wheel," Gross said. Central Catholic students had their prom at the Churchill Country Club, followed by a river cruise ending at 5 a.m. A prom chaperone and friend of Ranallo, Cindy Jagielski, said she had recently talked with him about his plans to start college early this summer. "You go to all these lengths to make sure that your children are safe," she said.

"They took roll call at the prom, then later, too. They had such a nice time. Attention IRA Rollover Investors: PRUDENTIAL SECURITIES NOW OFFERS AN IRA WITH NO ANNUAL CUSTODIAL FEE.
