with highflying Surgoinsville in the Blountville gymnasium Coach Dwight Mason who is beginning his sixth season at the Mary Hughes helm released a 26-game schedule for his cagers Mason who tutored the Lions to a 25-6 overall record last season and a second place tie finish in the Upper Lakes Conference with a 11-3 mark lost three starters but retaained the first two top scorers Graduation took both guards Bud Dempsey and Eddie Malone and a forward Harold Alison Five reserves also graduated Rudy Curd Roy Crussell Kent Wyatt Jerry Jones and Norman Ealey Retained were center Bill Wilson third-ranked scorer in the con Four MSU Gridders Face Action MEMPHIS (UPI) Four Mem phis State football players accused of roughing up the sports editor of the campus newspaper because they didnt like his predictions probably will go before a disciplinary committee Monday a university spokesman said The four players all members of the freshman team were accused of attacking sports editor Eddie Clinton of the Tiger Rag Clinton had predicted Memphis State would lose its game against Mississippi State Saturday night Clinton said the four grabbed him and shoved his date Mary Eikner against a wall Friday afternoon He said they tried to shave his head with an electric razor but it wouldnt start Don Coffey captain of Memphis States varsity squad stepped in and broke up the dispute The names
