participating are asked to call the Civic Auditorium within the next two weeks in order that practice schedules can be arranged for Saturday morning Games will be played at Ross Robinson and John Sevier Junior High Schools and at Civic Auditorium Each quarter prill be fiva minutees and regular rules of basketball will be observed Boys will be assigned to teams for practice at the school nearest their neighborhood and if possible the same names of teams as were carried during Pee Wee baseball such as Tigers Phillies and Yanks will be used for Pee Wee basketball teams The City Recreation Department is interested in managers or coaches for the teams and if any parent or young men are interested in coaching the Pee Wee teams voluntarily of course they are requested to call running of Joe Scarpa ti Gabriel tossed to Carson Bosher from the eight for the score with 4: 13 left in the half The drive began from the State 42 Scarpati set up the score when he broke into the clear and ran 21 yards to the 20 A personal foul brought the ball to the 10 and after fullback Jim DAniomo went through the middle to the eight Gabriel uncorked his pass Tackle Jake Shaffer booted the yards in the final period Saturday to nip Furman 9-8 and move a step nearer its first Southern Conference football championship The visiting Paladins had led 9-3 after a second quarter touchdown strike until The Citadel rode the air arm of quarterback Bill Whaley to smash Furman's dream of a conference crown By winning Furman could have moved Into first place Whaley made his team a break by recovering a fourth quarter Furman fumble to set in motion the payoff drive He pitched 11 yards to end Charlie Brendle to cap the 46-yard drive The Citadel after losing its first two games won its fourth in a row- and sits atop the conference with a 4-1 mark This was the final conference game for Furman now 2-2 in league play and 4-2 overall Bill Gilgo had kicked a 29-yard econd quarter field Seminoles 12-yard line where guard Gene McDowell intercepted a pass by Richmond quarterback Mel Rideout Kinderman rushed for 41 yards and took passes of 11 and 12 yards from quarterback Eddie Feely to account for 64 yards in the 13-play scoring march Feely sneaked one yard for the touchdown and Doug Messer added the extra point with a place kick Richmond had taken a 7-6 lead with only 22 seconds Conference football victory of the season scoring the clinching touchdown on an 80-yard drive in 18 plays with less than two minutes remaining The touchdown came on a two yard plunge by Bill McFarland
