View Lynxes behind the power running of' Ron Quil-' len Carlyle Powers and Dave Couch rolled over Maurjf High of Dandridge at Fred Johnson 8tadium Saturday afternoon 13-0 Quillen Powers and Couch led the Lynxes to 422 yards- gained rushing for thfe afternoon picking up 16 first downs to only eight for the visiting Maury outfit Couch increased his scoring lead to 64 points by scoring both Quillens try for the extra point feU short Mike Haulsees 27-yard pass to Couch midway in the drive was the biggest chunk of the march The remainder of the quarter Lynn View threatened contiguously but failed to dent the Maury double stripes Powers gave the Lynxes possession of the ball on Maurys 14 when he intercepted a pass on the 43 and returned to the 14 On the first play the Lynxes fumbled away the scoring oppor tunity Lynn View threatened again In the final minute of the first half when Haulsee passed 13 yards to Quillen and Couch's aerial was palled in by Claude McPherson for 20 yards to move the ball to the visitors' 20 as the half ended The Lynxes came back to open the second half by driving to the Maury 21 before losing the ball on downs Maury then opened up their ground attack moving to the Lynn View touchdowns Quillen accounted for the extra point with a perfect placement After a scoreless first period Lynn View took Maurys punt on its own 28-yard llnffeand started goalward for the first score of the game With Quillen Powers and Couch carrying the load the Lynxes moved to the nine-yard stripe where Couch took a pitch-out run into a couple of Maury tacklers spun away and crossed over the goal line for the score uprights with his placement and give the Lynxes a 13-0 decision Maury threatened in the dying minutes of the garni when Oeorge took to the air on the Lynn View end EDMOND LEAGUE from tail- Isenberg Notre Dame Unscored On Many of the big time football forecasters predicted Notre Dames Fighting Irish! to have their poorest season in years this 'season but cdach Terry Brennan in his second year as head football coach has piloted the Irish to three straight victories thus far and has been unscored on Notre Dame rolled over Southern Methodist in the opening game of the season 17-0 then defeated Indiana 19-0 and Friday night blanked Miamis Hurricanes 14-0 Brennan now 27 years old coached the Irish to a 9-1 record this year and from all indications the Notre Dame outfit will come close if hot equal or better last years mark The Irish get a strong test next Saturday afternoon when they take on powerful Michigan State in a nationally televised contest Paul Hornung has assured Brennan he is a capable replacement of graduated Ralph Gugleilmi who engineered the Notre Dame team the past few seasons Hornung passed for both touchdowns against Miami Friday night and has done a remarkable job in kicking a field goal and extra points this season Jones Named Coach Of Year Carl Jones former Dobyns-Bennett and Tiisculum star was named coach of the year at Americus Georgia High School the past year in Region 1-A Jones was named coach of the year in the annual coaching clinic in Georgia this summer The former Dobyns-Bennett gridder lost 15 lettermen from last years squad but has come back in fine style this season by winning three of four games defeating Cordile 32-7 Baimbridge 41-3 and Valdosta 7-6 Americus lost to Thomasville 13-6
