Friday when sportsmen from East Tennessee convene at the Armory there to pick a nine-man panel representing East Tennessee from which Governor Browning will select the Eastern Grand Divisions three members on the newly created Fish and Game Commission We hiked ourselves over to the office of Jim Asbury president of the Kingsport Rod and Gun Club the other day and got him to explain to us in layman's terms the setup of the Fish and Game Commission as created by the recently enacted Model Game Law For fish and game purposes the state has been roughly divided into the three Grand Divisions East Middle and West Each Grand Division submits a panel of nine names to the Governor for consideration in the ultimate makeup of the nine-man State Fish and Game Commission Three Sub-Divided Areas In order to facilitate the makeup of the Eastern Grand Divisions nine-man panel the Division Is sub-dlvlded into three general areas for ease in handling Sportsmen from the Chattanooga area Knoxville locale and Tri-Cities have nominated three men each for the Grand Divisions panel It is pretty much a cut and dried affair just who these various groups are to back but a dark horse could get in Nominations will be made from the floor at the Chattanooga meeting and if enough votes can be gathered traded or otherwise acquired by any group or person there somebody might upset the applecart Fish And Gams Divorced Frojn Conservation Under the Model Game Law the Fish and Game Department will be completely divorced from the Conservation Department Duties of the nine-man Fish and Game Commission will be to employ a Director of Fish and Game whose duties it will be to select personnel of and operate the Commission The Fish and Game Commissioner will serve at the pleasure of the Commission and be directly responsible to him for the operation of the department All other personnel in the department will be under Civil Service The Governor has the right to reject any given nine-man panel from the three Grand Divisions The entire makeup of the Fish and Game Commission will have to be approved by the Governor Initial appointments by the Governor to the Fish and Game Commission will be staggered over two four and six-year periods After that all appointments will be for six-year terms Fans To Get Good Look At Cherokees Kingsport fans will get a good look at the Cherokees in the first
