Northland Cable previously notified the station it would begin carrying it in Crockett beginning Thursday. Gilmer Cable Co. also agreed to carry the station. Cebridge Connections said it would extend in July its KYTX offering to Alba, Alto, Arp, Overton, Troup, New London, Ore City, Turnertown, Cedar Springs, Diana, Golden, Grapeland, Latexo, Groveton, Hawkins, Gladewater, Big Sandy, Owentown, Winona, Kilgore, Lake Cherokee North, Elderville, Lakeport, Lovelady, Mount Enterprise, New Summerfield, Price, Reklaw, Rusk and Trinity.

Hurley said. Alliance Cable, a cable company serving the Eagle's Bluff area, previously notified him it would carry the channel as soon as it could get the signal. Dish Network has checked the signal and DirecTV is testing the signal this week, Hurley said. Both satellite companies said they would begin carrying the station some time in July. DirecTV began carrying local channels in June.

Hurley said the KYTX news department will arrive Aug. 1, and the station will begin its own news broadcasts between Sept. 7 and Sept. 13. Now, the station has an agreement with CBS affiliate KTVT in Dallas to carry that station's news broadcasts until it can begin its own news coverage.

By GREG JUNEK Business Editor Tyler's CBS television affiliate, KYTX, was scheduled to begin broadcasting using a new transmitter and Cherokee County tower site Thursday, but the station began using the new transmitter and tower more than a week ago. Phil Hurley, president and general manager of Max Media of Texas LP, KYTX owner, said the station started testing the new equipment the weekend of June 18. No adjustment was needed on the analog and high-definition signals and signal contour, so the station activated the new equipment early, on June 21. The station broadcasts over the air on the channel 19 frequency. "We're extremely pleased with the signal," Hurley said.

Prior to June 21, the station broadcast from the old KLSB tower. Hurley and Lone Star Broadcasting put the Nacogdoches-based KLSB, originally an NBC affiliate, on the air in 1991, Max Media of Texas LP signed, an agreement to purchase the station in October 1993 for $4 million, and CBS announced it would become an affiliate station. Max Media of Texas moved the station to Tyler. More cable systems have agreed to add KYTX to their selection. Cable customers should check with their respective cable companies for information on which channel the station is being or will be carried.
