Tyler Morning Telegraph WEDNESDAY, APRIL 7, 2004 ID STATION Continued From Page IB affiliate WFAA. Communications Commission's "These changes and additions 'must carry' regulations, also coin-while made to reposition channels to tide with many of our customers conform to the Federal viewing requests," Riley said. 1 i i "Inside Edition" at 6:30 p.m. Hurley said KYTX's AFC football coverage from CBS will include "some Cowboy games and many Texan games We get to choose the game selection, and we will always choose a Texan or Cowboy game We will carry the same game mat KTVT carries." Hurley started out in broadcasting in Tyler in the early 1980s at KLTV. He said this is his third time to be apart of Max Media.

He was with KETK when Max Media purchased it in 1997 and sold it to Sinclair Broadcasting in 1998. Hurley left KETK in January 2001 and joined Max Media in Montana. He left and joined Nexstaf Broadcasting in Beaumont and operated its NBC affiliate mere. He left Nexstar in July for Max Media Hurley and Lone Star Broadcasting put KLSB on the air in 1991. Under FCC rules, when call letters are changed, the station owner must notify the commission of the change, and the change takes 24 hours to take effect Because Max Media will take ownership of KLSB on Monday, that will be its first ability to notify the FCC of the change, thus it must broadcast for 24 hours under the KLSB call letters.

Hurley said the station will carry every program the CBS network broadcasts. "We have contracted with CBS to carry 100 percent of their pro-granuhing he said. He said he and the staff of the new station are very busy, getting ready for the station to take to the airwaves. "At the studio we are finishing installation of all of our automation gear, which we call our master control room," he said. This is where all of the "switching" between syndicated programming, network programming, commercials, promotional announcements, public service announcements and news from KTVT will take place.

KYTX has an agreement with KTVT to broadcast that station's local news until it can build a local news operation. The station is also in temporary quarters at the Bank One building, where it has a full sales staff, business office, scheduling, production and promotion departments. CABLE, SATELTTE Cox Communications on Monday will add the new Tyler CBS affiliate to cable channel 1 1, replacing KTVT, Ed Riley, Cox's Tyler regional director of operations, said. Cox customers in Tyler and Jacksonville will notice the same addition to their channel lineup. Other cable companies, including Northland and Wehcd in the Longview area, will also carry the channel.

Hurley said the station's programming will be available on the Dish Network July 1, when a new transmitter is activated near Ponta. The new transmitter will also enable the station to broadcast in full-power Wgh-definition television (HDTV). For three months KYTX's signal will be broadcast from the KLSB tower between Lufkin and Nacogdoches, Hurley said. But after July 1, people in Tyler and other East Texas areas should have no trouble picking it up with an antenna if they do not have cable or satellite television. The new tower will increase the station's range, which will cover an area as far south as Lufkin and as far north as Mineola and Longview.

Hurley said the station's reception should be good in Tyler. "We'll be operating on 4,270,000 watts of power," Hurley said. 'It's a big, big station and big, big transmitter. Ami mat's in order to cover our entire East Texas market Hurley said KYTX has an agreement with KTVT to broadcast that station's local news programs at 6 am, 6 p.m. and 10 p.m.

He said KTVT has a 5 p.m. newscast but KYTX will not carry it because it is concentrated on Metroplex news. Commercial spots during the KTVTs news broadcasts will be filled by local advertising, Hurley said. KTYX is scheduled to begin broadcasting local news Sept 11. CBS programming runs for most of the day, Hurley said, and during those times it does not provide programming the station will air syndicated shows.

On weekdays these shows will include "Martha Stewart Living" at 9 a.m., "Jack Ali" at 3 p.m., two episodes of 'The Andy Griffith Show" from 4-5 "Who Wants To Be a Millionaire" at 5 p.m. and tfcaiF amim OTHER COX CHANGES fM'tt-i-H'l Cox Communications also announced that in addition to the KYTX cable channel 11 change, customers in Winnsboro and Gladewater will see other changes. In Winnsboro, the UPN network (KCEB) will be added to channel 23.
