Ms. Bailey is one of 252 educators across the country chosen to receive the honor oft "Educator of Distinction" an award that recognizes outstanding teachers dedicated to providing education with an enhanced purpose. "The Coca-Cola Educator of Distinction Award represents the selfless, hard-working and sincere dedication of the educators who win it. These teachers are committed to shaping the future of America by encouraging its future leaders," J. Mark Davis, president of the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation, said.

"CocaCola is committed to education, and we are proud to support the Educators of Distinction program. It is our way of saying thank you and congratulations to these teachers." Ms. Bailey receives a commemorative crystal Coca-Cola bottle and a plaque inscribed with a personal dedication written by Klarissa Hardy, a 2002 Coca-Cola Scholar and a senior from John Tyler High School, who nominated Ms. Bailey, j. Ms. Cheatham is a 1985 graduate from John Tyler High School who currently teaches at Commerce Elementary School. Nathaniel Moran, a 1993 graduate of Whitehouse High School and son of Mr. and Mrs. Dale E.

Moran, received his doctorate of jurisprudence recently from the Texas Tech University School of Law. While at Texas Tech, Moran served as chairman of the board of Barristers and was named as its outstanding member this year. In addition, this year he received the Moot CourtMock Trial Achievement Award from the school and was named to the National Order of Banisters for his excellence in advocacy. Brittany Coppedge, a senior at Winnsboro High School, and daughter of Randy and Kimberly Coppedge, Winnsboro, is the 2002 scholarship pro- fam recipient of The Association of nergy Service Companies, AESC. She was awarded a $4,000 scholarship.

She has excelled in academics, leadership roles and community endeavors. Brittany has participated in various activities throughout her high school years such as Beta Club, Spanish Club, Library Club, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Student Council Class Officer, school newspaper and yearbook staff, basketball, cneer team, Family Career and Community Leaders of America, and Rotary Club Summer. Scholars were chosen from an initial applicant pool of more than 91,000 representing more than 17,000 high schools nationwide. The 2002 class of Coca-Cola Scholars interviewed with a National Selection Committee representing education, business, government and arts leaders from across the country. The committee evaluated the scholars on their academic achievements, school and community leadership, and their desire to succeed.

During the Scholars Weekend, the 2002 class was also recognized at a banquet held in their honor. In addition, Coca-Cola, in partnership with the Corporation for National Service, presented each student with the President Student Service Challenge Scholarship that garnered each Coca-Cola Scholar an additional $500 award, certificate and gold pin. The President's Stu-dent Service Challenge Scholarship honors high school juniors and seniors who have contributed at least 100 hours of service during the last year. The President's Student Service Challenge is designed to reward and encourage activities that have a significant impact in meeting the needs of recommended stan- CANNON dards for reading achievement. In addition to national recognition, Andy Woods Elementary School will receive a merchandise certificate for in recognition of Ms.

Bjork has been a "member of Troop 369 since 1992 where his began his journey in scouting as a Tiger Cub. He has actively participated in the full range of scouting activities offered by the Boy Scouts of America. For his Eagle project, Jacob remodeled the outdoor classroom at Hubbard Middle School. He is a freshman at Robert E. Lee High School where he is a member of the swim team and band and is a member of Pollard United Methodist Church.
