Steve Eklund and 1975 champ Gary Scott Ricky Graham who has been racing three years on the pro circuit will be another racer to keep on eye on in the race Graham who hails from Pacific Grove Calif finished third in the 1980 points race The race Sunday is a national event Graham said in a interview Tuesday afternoon "Nobody will have an advantage here since this is the first time we have raced on this track Unlike their NASCAR counterparts motorcycle racers do not get days of practice "We get a couple of practice runs on the day of the race to see what the track is like Graham said "We then qualify the top 48 according to times over one lap After qualifying the top 48 are then placed into four heats The first three riders in the heats go directly to the championship race while the last three racers are done for the day The riders in between positions four through nine go to two semifinals from which only the winners advance This sets up a 14-man field for the finals The finals at Maryville will be 20 laps over a one-half-mile track "After riding a 310-pound motorcycle that long you get pretty tired" Graham said "It takes a 'combination of good reaction time quickness and stamina plus a little luck to be a winner Your equipment also has to be good if you expect to win The Maryville stop is just one of 24 races across the country Some of the more notable stops include
