I Tyler 62 iMidland 58 lEI Paso 54 Austin 66 "07 By BOB PETERS Staff Writer Strong thunderstorms moved through East Texas overnight Wednesday-Thursday, causing heavy rainfall and occurrences of severe weather. Most of the area was under a severe thunderstorm watch, and severe thunderstorm warnings were required for many of the counties. Among the reports of damage were a church steeple toppled in Texarkana, three mobile homes overturned in Nacogdoches County, some roof damage in Smith County and numerous trees, tree limbs and power lines downed in Rusk, Smith; Upshur, Gregg and Panola counties.

The line of thunderstorms developed over North Central Texas Wednesday night, and moved through the area during the overnight hours. It passed through Tyler about 12:10 a.m., with a severe thunderstorm warning in force for the county at the time. The thunderstorms developed ahead of a SanAntonio68l Houston660 Pacific cold front, and as a result of a passing upper-air disturbance. This disturbance was rotating around an upper-air low over the midwestern United States. Light rain continued for several hours behind the thunderstorm line, ending in Tyler just after 6 a.m.

Skies cleared Thursday morning when the front moved through Tyler at about 9 a.m. The upper air low is forecast to remain virtually stationary through the weekend, with upper air high pressure to the west. As a result, another disturbance should rotate southeastward around the low Saturday. This could return rainfall to the area at that time. With northwesterly winds aloft forecast to continue, temperatures will run below normal for the next few days.

The grand jury also heard from Nancy Hernreich, manager of Clinton's Oval Office operations and the presidential assistant who normally would know who gets in to see Clinton. Previous witnesses have said they were asked about contacts between Clinton and Ms. Lewinsky, the former intern who told a friend she had an affair with the president. Clinton has denied that allegation as well as an accusation that he asked her to lie about it. Hernreich's lawyer, Gerard Tre-anor, said she answered all questions during two days of he declined further comment.

Starr, defending the diversion from the Lewinsky accusations, told reporters Thursday, "I would reiterate, our office was being subjected to remarkable forms of false information." One private investigator involved in the case is Terry Lenzn-er, who has been working for the president's private lawyers, David Kendall and Robert Bennett. 8 am 5 pm Monday through Friday 7 am 7 pm Saturday 1 pm -6 pm March 1 7 am 7 pm March 2-6 RUSK Services for Jewel C. WASHINGTON (AP) Tracking negative information about their office, Independent Counsel Ken-neth Starr's prosecutors asked a White House aide Thursday what he knew about private investigators working for President Clinton's pri-vate lawyers. While the attorney for Sidney Blumenthal said the Clinton assistant had no information on the subject, the questioning showed how personal the investigation has become and how it has veered at times away from Monica Lewinsky.

Separately, several hours after Blumenthal testified before a federal grand jury, Starr made a rare appearance at the courthouse and went to the chambers of Chief U.S. District Judge Norma Holloway Johnson. Starr's office has been negotiating with the White House to avoid a court fight over executive privilege, and Johnson would make the initial rulings on any effort to avoid answering questions on such grounds.
