Driving Champion AKRON, Ohio (UPI) -Dennis Paulson, a 22-year-old amateur from Costa Mesa, won the national long-driving championship Tuesday with a drive of 323 yards, 25 inches at the Firestone Country Club. Paulson, the 1985 NCAA long-drive champion from San Diego State, became the first amateur to win the event since Andy Franks in 1979. Paulson's first-prize check of $7,500 was donated to the PGA Junior Golf Foundation.
