A 5 ear or so ago he selected in rlorida a pretty piece of property on the Suwanee river, established a town there, which promises to be one of the most attractive towns in that State. Mr. Miller, however siehed for other world0 to conquer, nnd casting around him for the best place, naturally chose Western North Carolina as the place of all places.

Alter carefully examining. he selected a veiy' beautiful tract of about dUO acres, eight miles South of Asheville, two North of Arden, lying on both sides of the railroad. The surroundings and the scenery are not only grand, but there are local attractions which ren.ier this a most desirable place for a beautiful and popular place. This property is elegantly Bhaded. lies well and besides, has upon it two mineral springs, one the hnest chalybeate water to be found in the South.

Mr, Miller has had the property well surveyed, laid off into magnifi cent streets some of them one hun dred feet wide the opening and grading of which is rapidly going for ward, apd divided the property in to dwelling and business lots of good size. Brother Joseph Carter, of the Wet tern North Carolina Baptist, writes us that he has been deputed to delivet the ad dress of welcome to the brethren of the Press when they arrive at Henderson- ville on the 20th inst He adds that the eiUxena of his town are preparing to tnva eoay mere uuw coitt and eomznon racuuua That is what we expected, and what we are glad to promise.

We want our brethren beyond the mountains tJ know more ortni part of tne State than thev do or have had opportunity of learning; and when to the novel and striking beauties of the country are added the cordial welcome of the people, we feel sure that the ties which ought to bind the whole State in common interest. ride and affection will be strengthened. ne best results might have been pre dicated upon these annual gatherings, bringing in turn each section of the State into review. There Has ncjbeen the lively interest awakened A that we had hoped for; and many members of the press give their faculties more to the en joyment of the social features of the occasion than to tne intelligent use of opportunity for more rational use of time. Since the inception of the North Caro lina Press Association there has oeen 1 great development in all North Carolina; and more particular in the Western sec-, tion which, materially, has been revolu- tionixed.

We are sure that many of the eastern brotherhood, accustomed to look upon the transmontane country as a mountain wilderness and a forest solitude will be amazed at the revelatien that awaits them. We will not anticipate their surprise. They will soon judge for themselves; and we hope all will come, see, enjoy and learn. Supekiok Courts Fall Team 1887. Ihe Colonel- During the week endidg on Saturday last there were 1,276 deaths in New York City.

The Herald says: "This is the largest mortality for the first week of July since 1S80, when the number was about a score larger. Of this very large number of deaths occurring last week 834 were in tenement houses, showing the deadly influence of residence in these close quarters. But the most startling fact is that out of the 83T deaths in tenement houses, 781 ot ninety-fcur percent( were deaths of children under years of age. With all our boast of advances in municipal and domestic hygiene it is astounding that Xieotal mortality now should be scT near that the corresponding period of 1880."
