nip By JIMMY SMYTH Sports Editor -The good things in life come too easily The East Tennessee State University Buccaneers demonstrated last night at University Stadium that worth working and waiting in the first half and finally mounted a game-winning drive of 82 yards helped along by couple of penalties against the visiting Pirates plus effective passing from the arm of Larry Graham to Pat Hauser and Rick Anderson The Bucs scored when Graham piled over from less than a yard with 5:14 remaining in the game Ron- Harrold kicked the extra point and the Burs for the first tife were in full command in the ball game East Carolina had opened up with a strong attack led by Billy Wightman who engineered a 71-yard drive from the 16 to East 13 in the initial quarter However the Buc The action TENNESSEEGUARD BOB SUFFRIDGE (1938-40y is among those listed on a modem All-Time All-America foot- were the top rushers for East Carolina with 69 and 64 yard respectively Anderson led receivers catching 3 passes for 36-yards Hauser caught three for 23-yards and Ron Causey latched on to two for 24-yards The defensive struggle highlighted a puntingduelbetween Rick McGlothlin who kicked eight the third quarter The Bucs pushed on this time to the Pirate 28 where Steve Garrett intercepted a pass The punting duel resumed until the Bucs oepned a drive at their own 17 which carried to East 35 before be-ing stopped East Carolina was on East Tennessee's 46 as the third period ended Bill Casey intercepted a pass to halt the Pirates- the interception was returned 15 yards to the 45 and a 15 yard penalty against East Carolina put the ball on the Carolina 40 with 14:11 left in the game Young picked up three yards to the 37 but Graham had to eat the ball for a seven yard loss when he find a receiver and a play later a Graham pass was intercepted by George Whitley and returned to East East Ten 43 The Buccaneer defense called a halt forcing the punt which Wightman kicked 42 yards and the Bucs were on their own 18 From this point ETSU launched its game-winning drive EastjCarolina sought to rally but the vBucs stopped the invaders and after Waters intercepted another pass ETSU moved
