fine quarterback Mike Gottfned Gottfried aid about everything a man can do with a football here Saturday The 276 yards he passed and ran for werent as impressive as he did it The Eagle ace just fired rushing EasI Tennessee depending more and more upon freshman performers moved the ball well particularly in the first naif when they picked up 166 of their 207 yards rushing The last half was a different story The Bucs got only three first downs after picking up tea the first half Total offense for ETSU was only 48 yards the second half with the Bncs piling np 221 to the Eagles 238 in the first half Johnny punting was one of the brighter spots for the Bucs despite a 19 yarder average was 401 on seven punts For Morehead the running ability for Leon Wesley helped keep defense off balance Wesley gained 112 yards 23 carries Bonnie Lemmon led the Bucs with 84 yards followed by Meade with 28 Meade passed for 70 yards playing practically aU of the game with the exception of a few minutes in the final period when Walter Wolfe came in Die loss left ETSU with a 2-4-1 record with Austin Peay home Saturday and Middle Tennessee on the road November 13 the final two games i The Bucs are now 1-4 in the OVC Morehead win put It at 2-5 overall and 2-4 in the conference THE NEW MOREHEAD athletic plant like most of those in the progressive OVC is an expanding one At least this is so in the Kentucky portion of the OVC which is widely known for its sports establishments Morehead is a school of 4600 students and a city of 4000 but far out-strips Johnson City in its facilities for athletics Johnson City of course is a city of near 35000 with an ETSU stadium of just over 6000 seating capacity in a school be tter- than 8000 enrollment: Journeys to other points in the OVC indicate clearly that ETSU in Johnson City has a lot of catching up to do The track surrounding the football field here at Morehead Is an eight-lane and adjacent to the football field is a baseball field and a stadium seating nearly 2000 Of course ETSU is moving ahead in this direction with a baseball field and a new track under construction But overall the football and basketball facilities in the OVC just plainly outdo the Tennessee schools and particularly ETSU And that goes for press-boxes too $50000 three-level press box Is a fitting structure to go with its fine stadium Apparently the best way to get ahead In the game fast in the Tri-Cities area is to build a big ffolliseum for basketball and remodel Johnson Memorial Stadium to about 20000 seating capacity for football CHARLESTON VA somewhat similar to
