The Storm edged Rio Ran- cho 80-79 for first place, while the Bears defeated Sandia, as the two-day Harper meet concluded. GIRLS: It was no surprise that electrifying sophomore sprinter, Adriana Tatum, was a part of two meet records Saturday. Tatum nearly broke the meet record in the 100, although she did become the first girl in the metro area this season to crack the 12-second barrier (11.98).

Tatum did break the existing Harper mark in the 200, fin- ishing in 24.34 seconds, which was 0.32 seconds better than the record that was set five years ago. Probably the most impres- sive record smashed by any- one this weekend was the 4x200-meter relay team from Sandia. UNM and its fellow Mountain West schools must decide to what degree TV can dictate future start times. Mountain West deliberates its TV future Next deal can perfect for all schools BY MARK ZEIGLER THE SAN DIEGO UNION-TRIBUNE Here is not going to happen when the Mountain West Conference opens negotia- tions for a new television contract this week: A major network swoops in and offers $30 mil- lion per school per year that would put the 12-school league on equal footing with Divi- sion power conferences. For the home to most of the University of New athletic programs, here is what could happen: Pretty much anything else.

There is no greater source of revenue or relevance for a conference than its TV con- tract for football and basketball, and the Mountain West has done nothing to warrant an elevation beyond its current status that commands $1.1 million per school per year: plodding along in mid-major anonymity with the brief, occasional splash on the national stage. It is what it is. Most people outside the Pacif- ic and Mountain time zones, and even some in them, tell you everyone in it. The dollars reflect that. But how and where you view its games, at what time, on what days, for what price, for how long, could be radically altered from the mix of CBS Sports Network, ESPN2 or ESPNU, regional networks plus web streams of varying quality, obscurity and accessibility that expires in June 2020.
