Six eggs, two cups sugar, one cup butter, four cups flour, one cup sour milk, one teaspoon soda; mix and bake like jelly cakes, four in number. As soon as one is done ice it on top, then put on another and ice it, continuing in bike manner until I he fourth is placed on top and iced. The beaten whites of four eggs, made thick with sugar, will make enough icing.

The juice of a lemon in the icing whitens and hardens it. To Freshen Salt Buttpr. Churn the butter with new milk, in the proportion of a pound of butter to a quart of milk. Treat the butter in all respects in churning as if it was fresh. Bad butter may be greatly by dissolving it thoroughly in hot water.

Let it cool; then skim it off and churn again, adding a small quantity of good salt and sugar. A small quantity may be tried and approved before trying a larger one. The water should be merely hot enough to melt the butter. Icing. Take the yolk of an egg, a little butter melted, beat well together," put on your cake, sift on sugar, and set in the oven a few minutes.

How to Make the Hair Grow. Take one egg well beaten, rub it thoroughly through the hair, then let it dry. Comb it out, wash in soap suds. You will rind it very nice for the hair. Take three cups bread sponge, when light, two cups sugar, one eup butter, two eggs; stir up well; put in spices to taste, and fruit if you prefer; set it down to rise; when light bake in b.
