Sec. 1 Community Responds To Local Tyler FRIDAY, JUNE 23, 1989 8 "i Food Drive With 35,000 Pounds Marjorie lafelice Services Saturday AROUND TYLER Services for Mrs. Marjorie M. lafelice. 64, Tyler, are scheduled for 10:30 a.m.

Saturday at Lloyd James Funeral Home chapel, Tyler, with the Rev. James Cheatham and the Rev. Kim Beckham officiating. Burial will be in Liberty Hill Cemetery. Mrs.

lafelice died Thursday morning in a Tyler hospital after a Billy Wayne Brown Services Saturday brief illness. She was born July 1, 1924, in Tyler and was a lifelong resident. She was a 1948 graduate of Tri-State College, Shreveport, and was a former nursing teacher at Medical Center Hospital, Tyler, and was one of the first to issue the polio vaccine in East Texas. She also worked with pioneer heart surgeon Dr. Michael DeBakey in Houston.

She was a member of Westwood Baptist Church. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Don and Kim lafelice, Tyler; two brothers, Roy Dean and Floyd Dean, both of Tyler; a sister, Mrs. Edna Bonds, Conroe; and one granddaughter, Teresa lafelice, Tyler. Pallbearers will be Larry Bonds, Jerry Bonds, Charles Dean, Jimmy McDougal, Jerry Humphries and bank, Executive Director Dara Austin said. Since its opening in October 1988, the food bank has served an estimated 45,000 individuals through agencies in 23 counties.

The following is a list of contributors to the canned food drive: TylerSmith County Child Welfare Board, Littera Literary Club, Mother Frances Hospital Auxiliary, Target employees, Delta Sigma Theta, Kilgore Rotary Club, First Presbyterian Church, Green Acres Baptist Church, Wesley United Methodist Church, St. Gregory School, McDonald's, KETK-TV 56, KLTV-Channel 7, KTBB-KNUE, Tyler Morning Telegraph Courier Times, Southwestern Bell Telephone Southland Food Distribution Center, Brookshire Grocery Tyler Independent School District administration, Rex-Hide Industries and La Gloria. "We have a very special thank you for the employees and union of Kelly-Springfield Tire Company for all their efforts and support," Ms. Austin said. School canned food drive winners were: Moore Middle School, first place; Andy Woods Elementary, second place; and Bonner Elementary, third place.

Other school participants included Griffin Elementary, Orr Middle School, Douglas Middle School, Peete Elementary, Stewart Middle School, St. Louis School, Austin Elementary, Rice Elementary, Hogg Middle School, John Tyler High School, Dixie Elementary, Jones Elementary, Boulter Middle School, Ramey Elementary and Birdwell Elementary. The Regional East Texas Food Bank is located in Tyler Industrial Park, in the former Bearing Chain Co. building, 3401 Robertson Road. The Regional East Texas Food Bank collected more than 35,000 pounds of goods during its two-week canned food drive last month.

The food bank began the drive, with the theme "Open Your Heart to the Hungry," to stock up on goods to meet the increasing needs from area agencies. The canned goods will provide a better variety to the 55 agencies served by the Floyd Gene Tyler Services Saturday Services for Floyd Gene Tyler, 60, Tyler, are scheduled for 4 p.m. Saturday in Memorial Funeral Home West chapel with Brother Rex Ponder officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Mr.

Tyler died Thursday in his residence after a brief illness. He was born Aug. 14, 1928, in Hope, Ark. He was a shipping supervisor for Bonar Packaging formerly USI, for 28 years. He was a member of Masonic Lodge No.

33 of Tyler. He was a Shriner and a member of Sharon Temple. He was a deacon in Friendly Baptist Church, Tyler. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Clarise Tyler, Tyler; a son, Larry Tyler, Garland; two.daughters and sons-in-law, Sallye and R.C.

Rife, Hide-A-Way Lake, Margie and Mike Tapley, Whitehouse; two brothers, Ermon Tyler, Fowler, and Weldon Tyler, Waco; two sisters, Edna Gowdy and Lav-erne Davis, both of Waco; and six grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Gary Tyler, Gerald Tyler, Ricky Tyler, Dicky Tyler, Jamie Davis, Leslie Davis, Royce Davis and Ray Gowdy. Family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. tonight at the funeral home. Kopp Services Saturday Graveside services for Paul J. Kopp, 75, Tyler, are scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday at Rose Hill Cemetery with Dr. James Garrett officiating. Services are under direction of Burks-Walker-Tippit Funeral CAP Volunteer Banquet Saturday Night The Lester Smith Community Action Program (CAP) volunteer banquet is scheduled for 7 p.m.

Saturday in the Texas College cafeteria. The program, under direction of Matthew Isabell, will feature the Rev. Elmo King, Joe Edwards and special music by Mrs. Theola Sessions and Mrs. Gloria Thomas.

The Rev. James F. Bailey, chairman of the Rusk-Cherokee-Smith CAP board will serve as master of ceremonies at the volunteers' recognition banquet. Lester Smith volunteers currently have an ongoing fund-raising project, which will culminate in a trip to Washington, D.C., to attend a national conference in September. The fund-raising effort is conducted through commodity distribution centers and churches, Bailey said.

Commodities are distributed the second Thursday of the month at the following locations: True Vine Baptist Church, William Booth Garden Apartments, Butler Baptist Church. Hillside Community Center. Lee High School Class of 1964 will celebrate its 25th reunion Friday and Saturday. Events include registration party Friday night at Holiday Inn, a picnic and softball games at 10 a.m. Saturday at Lindsey Park, and a dinner at 7 p.m. Saturday at Willow Brook Country Club. Any Lee graduates, teachers, families and friends from 1962 to 1966 are invited.

Saturday Garage Sale Benefits D-Fy-lt Kelly-Springfield and United Rubber Workers Local 746 will sponsor a garage sale at the Union Hall 8 a.m. -6 p.m. Saturday to raise funds to purchase D-Fy-It (Drug-Free Youths In Texas) T-shirts, Paul Dickson, one of the organizers, said.

An estimated 3,000 Smith County students are expected to join the D-Fy-It program this coming school year. T-shirts, which are provided free to students, cost about $5 each to make, he said. "It's quite expensive to furnish the T-shirts, but they'll be. furnished to the kids free once they enter the program," Dickson said. Mid-City Kiwanians Sponsor Show Tyler Mid-City Kiwanis Club will sponsor a performance of Tom Shep-pard's Magical Moments Show at 2 p.m. Saturday in D.K. Caldwell Auditorium, 301 S. College Ave. The show will feature Sheppard performing magic acts and illusions, including sawing a woman in three parts and suspending a person in air, Bill Langston of the Mid-City Kiwanis said.

Mrs. Elvira Miller Services Friday Services for Mrs. Elvira Warren Miller, 68, Midlothian, a Tyler native, were held at 11 a.m. Friday at. Mount Pleasant Baptist Church in Midlothian with the Rev.

Carl McDuffy officiating. Burial was in Midlothian Cemetery under direction of Community Funeral Home, Waxahachie. Mrs. Miller died Monday in a Dallas hospital after a brief illness. She was bom April 2, 1921, in Smith County.

She was a member of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, Midlothian. Survivors include her husband, Hasie Miller, Midlothian; a son, Ivey Earl Miller, Midlothian; two daughters, Carrie S. Robinson, Dallas, and Betty Hamilton, Waxahachie; three brothers, Stanly B. Warren Tyler, Willie T. Warren, Dallas, and Ivey Warren Los Angeles, seven sisters, Naomi Eames and Ruth Golden, both of Tyler, Esther Jones and Dorothy Palmer, both of Los Angeles, Ruby L.

White, Carson, and Sue Nell Hewitt, Comp-ton, and Lassie B. Davis, Palestine; 13 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren. Princess Wilson Services Saturday Services for Mrs. Princess Black Wilson, 57, Tyler, are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday in Brooks Sterling Mortuary chapel with Elder Tyrone Anderson officiating.

Burial will be in Goss Cemetery, Tyler. Mrs. Wilson died Tuesday in a Tyler hospital. She was born Jan. 31, 1932, in Tyler.

She was a lifelong resident of Tyler and a member of True Vine Baptist Church. She was a housewife. Survivors include six sons, Albert Earl Mack, Ernest Lee Mack, Services for Billy Wayne Brown. 29. Houston, formerly of Tyler, are scheduled for 2 p.m.

He was born ii. 1-yler, July 19, 1959. He married Allison Johnson in July 1986. He was employed with Backlog Temporary Agency and was a member of North Tennaha Church of Christ. He was an avid softball player.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Allison Johnson Brown, Houston; three daughters, DeAndria LaShay Ellen Brown and Keyiona Mara-chella Brown, both of Tyler, Vash-erie Danielle Brown, Houston; parents, Mrs. Bobbie and Nathaniel Brown, Tyler; grandparents, Mrs. Janie Lee Brown, Mrs. Ozzie Mae Harris, all of Tyler; a brother, Kenneth Earl Brown, Minneapolis, and a sister, Lillie Mae Brown, Tyler.

Mr. Moreland died Thursday night in a Tyler nursing home after a long illness. He was born Oct. 11, 1900, in Sulphur Springs. He was a retired from the Marshall News Messenger working in the maintenance departme.it.

Survivors include her husband, Edgar Jordan, Tyler; two daughters and sons-in-law, Jan and Jim-mie Price.
