The supervisors will make contact with the school district to further pursue the matter.

Prior to Pollakuasky's comments, Supervisor Terry Hauze suggested the supervisors go on record as not agreeing with the plan to send junior high students (ninth graders) to Hazleton and add seventh and eighth graders to kindergarten and intermediate grades at Freeland Elementary. He pointed out that the township developing with more and more housing in the east end, and perhaps the through eighth grade facility will be over-crowded in several years. However, it was decided that because the district's overall building plan is not finalized, any protests or complaints about the Freeland school picture should be held in abeyance. 5iTsrrT I 3M I i I I v. 1 pi I VSt.

i The Foster Township supervisors may be interested in acquiring the Freeland Junior High School building at Woodside, when and if the building is closed down by the Hazleton Area School District. The township municipal building property is next to the school building land. After the suggestion came from a citizen, Joseph Pollakusky, at this week's township meeting that the township "actively pursue getting the building (FJHS, which is the former Foster Township High School) into the hands of Foster Township," and after discussion on the topic, the supervisors noted "it is worth looking into." Pollakusky, who is a member of the township zoning hearing board, spoke out at the audience participation segment of the meeting. He said his comments would be on the junior high school building and added that rumors have been heard that several commercial enterprises are looking into purchasing the school building once it is closed. In the ensuing discussions, it was noted that the school building, built with local taxpayer and state funding in the late 1930s, was built internally strong and it would be a shame if it was razed, i Pollakusky said the township icould possibly renovate the build-ling to create commercial facilities, like office spaces, apartments, and the like, and derive rental revenues.

Part of the build-ling also could be used for townshiprecreation purposes. Funding might be possible for 'repairs and renovations through Development funds, lor countystatefederal grants or Money generated from Jrentals could be used to recoup renovation costs. During the discussion, it also was observed that with 'kindergarten through eighth grade students to be housed in the pres Rt. 940 into FREELAND turn at to Stop Sign Left First Right. Book of pope's poetry unveiled VATICAN CITY (AP) -Another work by Pope John Paul II is hitting the book shelves a volume of poems written between 1939 and shortly before his selection as pope in 1978. Complete Poetic Works, which was presented Wednesday, joins the pope's Crossing the Threshold of Hope, which has been on bestseller lists since it was issued in October. Hero (Continued from page 19) Hazleton, represented by Mary Ellen Oswald, awarded Lauren with gift certificates and a sweatshirt. "We are very, very proud of you, Lauren," said Oswald. They're not the only ones who are proud of Lauren.

"I just think that she acted in a very mature manner, and I'm proud of her for doing so," said Lauren's mother, Lynn. Council President Wetzel added "We're all very proud of Lauren, and we are also very pleased that at five after nine in the morning we were able to get the response from all the volunteer fire companies that came to help with the situation. I also think that in this day and age, when we are always hearing about the bad things kids do, it was really a pleasure to be able to present her with this honor." Homeowner Roll and, however, is probably the most proud. And the most grateful. "I was really thankful that she was alerted to the sound of the alarm, and that she told an adult who was able to reach the fire department.

Most children of that age don't react to the sound of a smoke detector. We are really proud of her, and very thankful."
