Saint Laurent's amazing color sense pulled all combinations together. Imagine hues of violet, lilac, baby pink and primrose blue for winter Here, they're perfectly combined. Guy Laroche also went for color and slimmed-down skirts, although some were well below the knee. His big idea, well worked-out, was girdling the hip in a kind of corselet, leather for daytime, dressy cum- merbund-style for evening. The remarkable use of leather was also put to advantage on daytime suits with leather panels front or back, on skirts or jackets.

Laroche cleverly edited his late-day scene down to a few striking items, from dinner dresses to a couple of excellent ball gowns. The prettiest dinner dresses in pastel or bright chiffon had intricate "hip girth" effects of chiffon woven like maypole ribbons. Couple Note 50th LINDALE Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence W.

Yves Saint Laurent, Givenchy and 'Guy Laroche came down squarely for sophisticated outfits that had short skirts just below the knee, in super-luxury fabrics and leathers, with extravagant evening wear as well. They all did lots of trousers, too, to please a rich clientele who can actually buy couture thousands of dollars per outfit (though nearly a bargain for Americans these days, with the dollar way up in relation to the franc.) In a show that went on endlessly two hours the couture king Saint Laurent nevertheless again made his point. His clothes are ever simpler and yet strikingly beautiful. The lines were whittled down to almost princess, with lots of very small boleros, some long blouson jackets, a plethora of subtle colors to offset lots of black and autumn tweeds.

Saint Laurent's classic pants looked great, especially in grey topped by an ivory jersey tunic and long greatcoat. He also opted for supple jumpsuits. Daytime shoulders were padded to square, but not outsized. Everything was topped with ele-' gant furs, from sable to marmot and fox. And a favorite dressy black mink bolero had a huge silver fox collar and buttoned cuffs.

The tuxedo or dinner suit can turn into a big black coat if you already have the trouser suit, and can be decked out in spangles. Big winners here also include the high-bodiced and slinky black short dress, sometimes deeply decollete. Use this with different sparkles and furs and you'll never need anything else for cocktail wear. All the clothes are elegant and wearable, points that some couturiers occasionally forget when trying to startle or shake up their audience. However, jet-edged gloves with pleated gauntlets and shoes with pleated high satin vamps lend original touches to some Saint Laurent outfits.

Saint Laurent's fur-lined pastel raincoats, his shimmery satin, fitted and embroidered jackets were unforgettable, like all the evening wear. Saint Laurent's stunner this time was several versions of a full-skirted faille evening gown with wavy or scroll patterns and a patchwork effect under a fitted velvet bodice. Many of Saint Laurent's touches showed up elsewhere, but his Sweater Basic Eleanor Roosevelt's Human Rights Efforts Remembered With Award SALE i Monograms Etc. is having their pcTXjOCa Basic Sweater Sale. More than 300 people, including United Nations Ambassador Jeane Kirkpatrick and members of the Roosevelt family, packed the City Council Chamber at City Hall for an emotional tribute to Miss Anderson and Mrs. Roosevelt.
