Aledo; Charlie TT 1 ft I A No, 'Jaws' Speaks: As Cowboys Roll Into Philly PHILADELPHIA (AP) "It's time to put-up or shut-up," said Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Ron Jaworski. The Eagles' playoff hopes are in jeopardy Sunday when they meet the Dallas Cowboys here in a National Football League game. "We've lost three games in a row and we can't afford to lose another," said Jaworski of the 4-5 Eagles. "We're still in the hunt for a playoff spot and we all realize it. But another loss would make it tough," the quarterback observed.

"It's a must game, no doubt about it. We have to win" It won't be easy. The 8-1 Cowboys already have beaten the Eagles 37-7 and are favored to repeat the blowout of a team which hasn't won at home this year and lost eight of the last nine on their turf." Jaworski, however, sees some hope. "We usually play them well, matchup pretty well, he said, discounting the lopsided earlier defeat. "I'm sure you'll see a fired-up emotional football team We have to be." The Eagles feel one key to beating the Cowboys is stopping tight end Doug Cosbie from catching passes over the middle.

"There is no question that we can't allow that," said Eagles coach Marion Campbell. "We can't let him freewheel like he did. The big thing we have to stop is Cosbie and Ron Springs on their third down situations. We've don a good job on that before, but just got away from it." Dallas coach Tom Landry said he doesn't expect an easy game. "It was our best game, but it wasn't Philadelphia's obviously," Landry noted.

"It's difficult when you're coming back from a game like that to play a team that did not play the way it's capable of. It's going to.be a very tough game." Dallas quarterback Danny White said, "Not many teams can't improve and get better in some ways. But the bottom line is are you making the plays necessary to win football Bowlin, Houston; Bill Pardo, Weatherford; Lloyd Pate, Dallas; Richard Staton, Dallas; Lanny Money, Pilot Point; Riley Burnett, Dayton; Walter Godberry, Bryan; Johnny Linney, John Toole, Dallas; Gary Mosely, Dallas; Homer C. The Owls lost for the 21st time in 22 games, but threw a large scare into the Mustangs, who turned the ball over five times and found themselves tied going into the fourth quarter.

Atkins, who combined with teammate Reggie Dupard to 390 yards (a school record for two backs), finally ignited the lethargic Mustangs with a long-distance run that set up SMU's go-ahead score. On a first-and-10 situation at his own 25, Atkins swept right end on an option play and made it to the Rice 19 before being knocked out of bounds. Five plays later, facing third down at the Rice 1-yard line and with a light rain just starting to fall, quarterback. Lance Mcllhenny faked Dupard into the middle of the line and flipped the ball over the charging linemen to tight end Rickey Bolden. Atkins scored less than two minutes later on a 22-yard run, two plays after Dwayne Anderson had intercepted a pass.

Atkins scored SMU's first touchdown on a 1-yard run with 33 seconds to play in the second quarter one play after Dupard gained 60 yards. Rice's points came on field goals of 55 and 34 yards by James Hamrick the 55-yarder being a school record. The Owls, however, failed to score an offensive touchdown for the fifth straight game. The win was Mcllhenny's 31st as SMU's quarterback, leaving him just two short of equaling the most number of victories ever by a Southwest Conference quarterback. Bobby Layne set the mark while at Texas during the 1940's.

But Mcllhenny experienced a difficult afternoon, throwing four interceptions. Coming into the game Mcllhenny had thrown only one interception all season and that had come on a tipped pass last week against Texas The 390 yards by Dupard and Atkins surpassed an SMU record of 347 yards gained by Craig James and -Staff Photo By Paul Buck TJC FREE SAFETY PICKS OFF HCJC AERIAL Ronald Mask (80) Goes High For Interception By United Press International (West Coaat Game Ndl Included) Eastern Conference Atlantic Division Pet. Hawkins, 20AA runnerup, makes it bidistrict debut with 19AA champion Waskom at 7:30 p.m. Friday in White Oak as mentor Kenneth Skidmore makes his sixth straight playoff appearance, three coming with the Hawks.

Grand Saline and Quitman are also returning to the playoffs after brilliant postseason showings last season. The Indians, winners of 17AA, face New Diana at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Gilmer's Buckeye Stadium, while Quitman takes on 18AA champion Ore City at 8 p.m. Saturday at Rose Stadium. The Quitman-Ore City matchup pits two impressive offenses, including Rebel quarterback Mark Motley.

It also has a bit of homecoming spice as Ore City head coach Melvyn Wright faces the team he served as an assistant last year. As for Grand Saline, the Indians had to wait until Friday to find out their bidistrict opponent. Although Ore City had the title secured, New Diana and Big Sandy were deadlocked in second with 3-1-1 ledgers. New Diana had beaten Big Sandy on penetrations after a 20-20 tie and needed a win over Ore City to earn a bidistrict rematch with Grand Saline. The Eagles got the opportunity in rallying to a 14-13 victory.

In AAA, Van had to come up with a 21-8 victory over Canton to earn its fifth straight playoff appearance. The Vandals, 12AAA runnerup, face Midlothian in an 8 p.m. clash Friday at Garland's Williams Field, while 12AAA champion Kaufman takes on Alvarado at 8 p.m. Friday in Mesquite.
