Navy officials say probably we would warn them off and show them the way with an escort without any use of force ships moving to Eniwetok The the small naval vessel which caught fire and got in trouble recently is a buoy-marker layer that was Eniwetok bound Presumably-it was going to drop new or additional buoys to mark the safe channels into the area around gpiwetok where the United States has posted out warnings This forbidden area roughly 150 by 200 miles was blocked off at the start of 1948 when word was passed that it was a danger zone and only persons authorized by the government to take part in experiments at Eniwetok would be welcome around Washington that perhaps oreign submarines and that would mean Russian subs have set up a picket line to keep an eye on ships moving out toward Eniwetok There have been reports that more than a score of submarines have been sighted off the west coast in the last few weeks Naval authorities say though they have not definitely identified any foreign subs operating In that area They do say a strange sub was sighted some 30 or 40 miles from Eniwetok at the time of the 1948 atomc test but that is the only one they are sure about Have Ships Going There But evidently we do have some i the best time for- such experiments Whether a hydrogen bomb might be ready for a test in the next few months along with improved atomic bombs is a matter of pure speculation There have been unverified conjectures that the gov 1 eroment already may have run some hydrogen bomb tests in a minor way But' some atomic experts have said it would take at least a year or two to develop H-bombs And some even have suggested we may never succeed in perfecting one Besides the factor of favorable winds at this time of year there are other signs that an atomic test may be poming up at Eniwetok before the summer is over Without mentioning dates the Atomic Energy Commission and Defense Department advised President Truman last November they were planning a new series of tests to be conducted in the greatest secrecy Since the war there lave been only two one at Bikini Atoll in 1948 and one at Eniwetok in 1948 so the time may be about ripe for Number 3 Contract Let A contract has been let for repairing and improving technical facilities at the Eniwetok proving grounds obviously to get ready for something An Army construction force recently was assigned to help with this work at the remote dot in the Pacific A Joint Task Force 3 com roanded by Lt Gen Quesada of the Air Force has Jeen set up to manage the next tests There are deputy commanders for the Army Navy and Atomic Energy Commission -There has been some thought GBmUii New Frigidaire Store To Tomorrow Formal opening of Bolin' and Nicely Equipment Co dealers in Frigidaire electrical appli-ances will be held 8 am to 9 tomorrow at the new store 403 Wall Avenue Walker general manager of the Knoxville store comes from the Atlanta office of Frigidaire Sales Corp where he had been employed as commercial and air conditioning representative working of six Southern states Born at Maryville Walker now lives with his wife the former Margaret Leicht at 218 Moody Avenue Knoxville REUGION means RKVIIIMCI OII0IIHCI OtDIft IRREUGIOH mecuu CHAOS CKIMK SOCIAL COUAPSI Paten aggjflejaii mmm WINNING THESPIANS A group of Knoxville High School students coached by Miss Ruby Bird Friday took first place in state finals of the Tennessee Interscholastic League one-act play category at University of Tennessee Members of the winning group were (front left to right) Audrey DeVoe Peggy Claypool Miss Ruby Bird Dixie Lindsay and Gloria Linkous (rear) Bob Harrison David Gregg Laurence Caldwell Bill Geros and Dwight McCowley Play used by the group was of Other competitors in the finals were Whitehaven High School with and Baxter Seminary Game of HUM OJ Warning Ignored On Revealed Red fiKAV ci6l6lK: Unbeatable Low Price!
