"We are sending a letter to the employees who generally had the longest time," Rhodes said. Production on the new product is scheduled to begin in late March, and employees working on the product will be trained for the new production line. "These being brought back, they are going to be used in a variety of production jobs that are necessary to meet the production deadline," Rhodes said. Rhodes said about 150 hourly employees recalled, effective March 3, for the anticipated production increase' due to the company's "BolDesign," a new line of residential air conditioning products introduced by Trane officials in November. About 300 of Trane's 1,500 hourly employees were laid off Aug. 26 after company officials said "sales are not keeping pace with current production rates." About one-third of tfrSPtayoffs were attributed to atransfer-of. commercial products from Tyler to the Fort Smith, Ark.

Trane plant. Letters regarding the recall were mailed to employees Friday, Rhodes said. The production increase is expected to last 3-5 months, Rhodes said. "The increase will coincide with the introduction of a more efficient line of residential central air conditioning products in the marketplace," Rhodes said. "As- announced in late 1985, Trane will spend about $43 million over the next two years to manufacture and develop the new product line.

"Employees eligible for recall are being told, the increased employment need probably will be temporary, but that the company will con-tinue to review production requirements as the year goes along," he added. A strong sales increase would be the only way the employee recall would be permanent, Rhodes said.
