It's getting to be quite a headache for the football pollsters, tooYttnd the people and organizations who stage the postseason games for charity, promotion or other means." Oddly enough, the three junior college grid teams embroiled in the arguments happen to be a trio among top-rated outfits in the country, by poll standards. Pratt JC of the Jayhawk (Kansas) Conference, Cameron of the Oklahoma alignment and Boise, Idaho of the Intermountain Conference are all having their troubles this year in spite of apparent all-winning records to date.

At the beginning of the season, Pratt, Cameron and Boise were all members in good standing of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), the long-struggling organization that appeared a couple of years back to have the policing of JC athletics in complete control. Reasoning Behind Seasoning 1 Today, a little oyer halfway through the football campaign, at least two of those three schools have already been ousted from he weekly NJCAA football ratings. Pratt forfeited six victories because of use of an ineligible player and Cameron refuse) to comply with recognized NJCAA eligibility standards. It wis' reported this week that Boise, another undefeated JC grid pwer, is also under investigation over eligibility rules. Then is reasoning behind all that seasoning, however, because he plum goal of every junior college football squad west of the Mississippi these days happen to be the Jr.

Now, all three of those conferences are NJCAA-sanctioned nd, under NJCAA standards, neither. Pratt, Cameron or Boise will likely gain conference champion status and favor or a clean bill from the American Association of Junior Colleges IF THE THREE SCHOOLS DID FLAUNT NJCAA ELIGIBILITY RULES and did disregard same.

Too Late Not To Comply It's already too late for schools interested in the Jr. Rose Bowl and other post-season games to pull away from the NJCAA and go it on their own and if the post-season people decide to "over-rule" (for the purpose of invitation, only) the NJCAA and take a tarnished team anyhow, it might very well be establishing a precedent that could divide and destroy the harmony that exists today among the nation's two-year schools. Such a crackup wouldn't harm the junior college athletic programs so much this year, but it would definitely rear its ugly head and take its toll in the already-shaky years to come. Athletic eligibility rules at junior colleges are strict, by association standards, but they are so designed for the sole purpose that every school can complete on something resembling a fair and even basis.
