Unb 6 Ap mn 6) Scores hands just the play before, but when he went down to the end zone he made a circus catch to atone for his first error. Thompson missed the point and Tyler held on to a slim 9-7 lead with seven minutes remaining in the half. Tyler held Cameron on the 23-yard line after the Aggies had put together a good drive and caught fire in one of their best drives of neither team threatening the goal 'line. Tyler punched a drive tt the Cameron 22 yard line, but that failed to materialize when the Apaches suffered two 15-yard penalties. Tyler Cameron 13 First Downs 10 1 By JIM HONEYWELL Sports Editor After looking like Ned in the First Reader for the first 15 minutes here Saturday night, Tyler Junior College buckled down to lash Cameron's undefeated Aggies, 16-7, in Rose Stadium. Three- times during the first quarter Tyler gave Cameron the ball inside the Apache 20-yard line. But three times the defense held and saved what could have been "a' very disastrous -night for TJC. And when they got rolling, the Apaches banged their way to two first-half touchdowns and a field goal and held Cameron to only 52 yards net rushing in the first half to wrap up the game. The big star for the Apaches was John Smith, a fine defensive end, who scored one touchdown on a pass and recovered two fumbles that led to two Tyler scores.

The Apaches jumped out in front with 6:10 left in the first quarter when end Dan Thompson jumped a field goal through from the four-yard line. The Apaches had Drought the ball from the Cameron 25 after Smith recovered a fumble. But on fourth down at the four, coach Floyd Wagstaff called for the field goal try and Thompson obliged. But that 3-0 lead was shortlived. Halfback James Shaw, who played a magnificent, game against Paris last "fumbled on a Cameron punt and the Aggies took over on the Tyler 20.

It took them just three plays to ram the ball down into the end zone. Quarterback Earl Tankers-ley carried over for the final yard. He added the point and with 50 seconds left in the first period Cameron was in front, 7-3: A big second period finished the scoring for the night. Smith recovered another fumble on the Cameron 19 and then hauled in an 18-yard pass from Stevens for the first Tyler touchdown. Smith missed a pass right in his il stead Leads Aggies the year.

From the Tyler 20, Larry Cor-ley alternate fullback, roared 10 yards, Cyphers hit Thompson for an 11-yard gain, Cyphers rolled out and kept for 22 yards, then it happened. Alternate halfback Warren Norvell raced 37 yards in and out of Aggie defenders for an amazing touchdown run that salted away the game. Cyphers added the point after and with a minute left in the half Tyler had the final count, 16-7. The battle waged back and fourth in the final half, with Tec kicked two extra points. He also kicked beautifully and led in ball-carrying with 69 yards.

The booming Washington State attack wrapped up the victory in the first half, when California also scored its only touchdown. Both teams were stymied time and again by penalties in the second half.

Newman put his team in front in the first period. He completed six of eight passes on the scoring drive, but it was his understudy, quarterback Bunny Aldrich, who passed the last seven yards to end Jack Fanning with 4:50 to play. Aldrich converted. Baylor struck for its first touchdown to open the third period. Farrell Fisher took the kickoff on his own 12 and got to the Houston 49 in a beautiful 39-yard return. Arthur Beall drove to the Houston 46, then Louis Humphrey tried a keeper that got only two. Humphrey then passed to Earl Miller on the Houston 27. Larry Hickman, the Baylor workhorse tonight, crashed for two yards.

After an incomplete pass, Humphrey hit Bill Anderson on the Houston 3, again for 22 yards. Fisher drove over and Beall converted. It turned out that was the ball game. Houston struck back, however, with Harold Lewis taking the kickoff on his own two and cutting to his own left. He sprinted all the way to the Baylor 35 where Hickman, the only Baylor defend er left with a chance at him.

tipped Lewis enough to make him step out of bounds. Owen Mulholland, Claude King and a 15-yard penalty put the ball on the Baylor 2. Lewis took a pitchout, ran to his left and passed to King, who was all alone in the end zone. Mulholland was rushed, howev er, and missed the extra point try. Late in the same period, Dick Clark took a Houston punt on his own 33 and ran to the Baylor 42.

Doyle Traylor's pinpoint passing to Clark put the ball on the Houston 33. Then Humphrey came in after the end of the third period and passed to Bill Anderson and with Fisher, Beall and Hickman crashing the line, moved to the Houston 2. Hickman crashed over and Beall converted. Hickman broke loose on a draw play in the final period on one of the prettiest runs of the night. He was almost trapped behind the line on the Baylor 30, but pulled his leg free and spurted all the way to the Houston 25 on a power run.

That series of downs earned to the Houston 4, where the Cougars took over on downs. Except for a Baylor drive stopped by the halftime gun, the first half was an accumulation of missed opportunities. At the end of the first period, Hickman kick ed from the 50-yard line and Claude King of Houston bobbled the, ball on the Houston five. It rolled to the Houston nine, where Lee Harrington recovered. On the first play, however, Austin Gon- soulin of Baylor smashed off left tackle, lost the ball and Charley Brown recovered on the Houston nine for the Cougars.

Late in the second period, Mike Michon punted from the Houston 37 to the Baylor 25, where it was grounded.
