He said Jarod told deputies he looked over when the other boy walked up and "then felt something in his eye" after the shot was fired. Wilson said X-rays revealed the fragment had lodged in the center of the eye.

said. KETK has agreed not to file with FCC for non-duplication protection which, if granted, would have forced United Cable to discontinue NBC-affiliate KXAS because the station would duplicate national programming carried on KETK, a local station, Thomae said. "In the past, such non-duplication was a real source of irritation to our subscribers and we appreciate the courtesy of the local stations in no longer requesting it," he said. "Approximately 75-80 percent of (KETK's) programming will be identical to the present (KXAS) position 5 schedule," Hurley said. KETK will carry the same national NBC programming but will broadcast local news and advertising from East Texas businesses.

In order to include KETK in the lineup, Thomae said some programming on the expanded tier will be offered on a time-share basis on some channels. ACTS, C-Span, Lifetime and Cable Value Network likely will time-share two channels with programs for one service shown during the day and programs on the other shown at night, a United Cable spokesman said. United Cable is undergoing a "rebuild" process which will expand basic service to 35 channels and eliminate the need for time-sharing, Thomae said. utn 1 1 uv aiitiiatc Svatiuii in uaiiv- sonville, will be shown on United Cable Television channel 5, Vince Thomae, United's general manager, has announced. The cable service will reorganize its lineup of channels to include the new station, which hopes to go on the air this week, Thomae said Tuesday.

The reorganization includes moving Fort Worth station KXAS-TV from cable channel 5 to 7. C-SPAN Cable Value Network, currently shown on cable channel 7, will time-share with programming on other channels on the expanded service tier. Thomae announced the changes after receiving input of viewer preferences obtained from a survey, subscriber calls and community leaders. Franchise and Federal Communications Commission guidelines also were considered, he said. "Granting KETK's request for initial placement on dial position 5, so that subscribers can easily find them, is seen as a positive step in support of the local economy," Thomae said, noting the station has added about 50 jobs and a new payroll in East Texas.

"Our new station can promote the growth of East Texas as a region, and we feel strongly that local advertising on local stations benifits all East Texas and keeps the retail dollar at home, not in Dallas or Houston," Phil Hurley, KETK general manager, I (R I IIK INTKKloKSOh VOI MINI) Ethan Allen GLADEWATER An 11-year-old Gladewater boy was being transported to a Dallas hospital late Wednesday night for treatment of an eye injury following an accidental shooting near his residence, Sgt. Gregg Wilson of the Smith County Sheriff's Department said. Jarod Jay Walls, son of Jarod Walls, a Gladewater reserve policeman, was accidentally struck in the eye by a bullet fragment that had ricocheted off the ground, Wilson said. The accident occurred, Wilson said, around 5:30 p.m. while Jarod and a 9-year-old friend were playing near some woods in the Friend-shipStarrville Community in northeast Smith County Wilson said the youngster was first taken to a Gladewater hospital and later transported to Longview where an eye specialist recommended taking the boy to Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas.

Wilson said the sheriff's department was notified of the shooting around 6:20 p.m. He said the accident happened after another youth, the 13-year-old brother of Jarod's playmate, walked up near where the two boys were playing and shot INT ALE -NOW IN SALE ENDS MARCH 7th McCarthy To Speak Here Tonight 815 SW Loop 323Tyler.
