Conservation officials this week are visiting an area near here to examine the area proposed as the Valley Rep Omar Robison of Rogers-ville conducted several talks with state officials during the legisla-ture regarding the possibility of making the area a state park He expressed himself as and over the prospects The proponents of the park say that 13 counties in the East Tennessee area would be afforded access to the proposed park including Washington Unicoi Sullivan and Greene counties The present estimated population of the area is 666870 At th site proposed near Mooresburg the Tennessee Valley Authority owns snd has retained for possible public recreation use some 1300 acres of lznd fronting on Poor Valley Creek an embay-ment of Cherokee Lake of the TV A system The shore line of this area Is 1725 miles Supporters of the park say that this area would have unexcelled access by means of splendid high ways Highway U-W runs through it The highway is intersected eight miles west of the proposed site by Highway 25-E Backers of the plan say that it would be necessary to build a dam across Poor Valley Creek to maintain the lake at a constant leveL A narrow gorge is located downstream at a place where the dam could be built at a minimum cost Recreation is naturally available supporters say They point out that Poor Valley Creek is mountain stream and is the natural habitat of smallmouth bass top-notch sport for fishing There ard also largemouth bass crappie saugers walleye pike striped bass and bream One of the arguments advanced by backers of the park is that Upper East Tennessee is traversed by tourists going to all points of the country The Poor Valley site is an excellent location to- attract tourist trade Rep Robison said that no additional money wbuld
