Floyd, winner of Jacksonville Open earlier this year broke out of Ihc three-way lie with Jack N'icklaus and linbby Mitchell and gave Ihe rugged, par-70 south course at Firestone Country Club its worst heating ever. His 72-hole total wiped oul the record 275 set by Kcu Venturi in 1964 and gave him a four-stroke vidory over host pro Bobby Nichols, who closed with a B7 and vaulted past the slumping Nicklaus and Mitchell, finished at 272.
