Mullaney, 70, of 201 Fifth Walervlicl, a veteran of World War 1, died suddenly yesterday at Albany Memorial Hospital. Albany County Coroner John J.

Marra pronounced death due to natural causes. Mr. Militancy, born in Water- vliel, was the son of Ihe late John and Catherine Smith Mullaney. He was educated in Wa- fen-liet schools, and operated a plumbing business there for many years. He was president of the Watervlicl Plumbing Board.

He served with the First Battery Field Artillery in the U.S. Army durins World War I. He was a communicant of St. Brigid's Church, and a member of the Holy Name Society of the church. Survivors include his widow, the former Helena Tacelli; three sons, Richard F.

of Sara- oga Springs; John J. of Troy, and Eugene E. Mullaney of iVatcrvliet; four daughters, Mrs. 3 hilip Maron of Loudonvillc; Mrs. William Ackerman and Mrs.

Robert Ashline of Water- vliot, and Mrs. Charles Miller of Colonie; a brother, James W. Mullaney of Watervliet, and 14 Funeral services will be held at 8:30 a.m. Friday from Parker Brothers Memorial, 2013 Broadway, Watervliet, and at 9 a.m. from St.

Firemen Kept Busy With Grass Blazes A plague of grass fires kept I Watervliet firemen on the go for I a five-hour period yesterday.

At 2:30 p.m., a grass fire near 12th Avenue between I6th and 19lh Streets was quenched by booster lines and brooms from Pumpers 2 and 4. Firemen remained on the scene for 45 minutes. Pumpers 2 and 4 were recalled to. the scene shortly after 3:15 p.m. when the fire re- erupted and again at 4 p.m.

At 5 the same apparatus was summoned to extinguish a grass fire near 9th Avenue and J6th Street.and the blaze was put out by booster lines and brooms, the firemen reluming lo headquarters 20 minutes later. Pumpers 2 and 4 slood from 5:30 lo 7:30 p.m. on the east side of 12ih Avenue be tivcen J6lh and Clinton Streets and used a hose line, booster line and brooms while burning grass as a safety measure. The same apparatus was summoned to the south side of 16th Street off 9th Avenue at 7:30 p.m. and quenched a Tire there with brooms, returning to headquarters a 4 7:45 p.m.
