Busy Week Set For Girl Scouts One of the busiest weeks in the history of the Girl Scout organization will start next Monday for the more than 2450 Girl Scouts of Tumbleweed Council. The reason is the "new design" in the Girl Scout program. The week will mark the first meetings of Girl Scout troops in four new age levels. New Girl Scout handbooks, developed to correspond to the new age levels, •will go on sale for the first time. The J.C. Penney Store, Garden City and Eckles Department Store Dodge City, official Girl Scout equipment agencies for the Tumbleweed Council, will make the handbooks available for purchase in Girl Scout shops. While the age range for girl members remains 7 through 17, Girl Scout troops are beginning to operate in four age levels: Brownie Girl Scouts (7 and 8 years), Junior Girl Scouts (9, 10 11 years), Cadette Girl Scouts (12, 13, 14 years), Senior Girl Scouts <15, 16, 17 years). This is in contrast to three age level — Brownies, Intermediates, Seniors — which were formerly the basis of Girl Scout troop organization. Commenting on the new age levels, Mrs. Gervais Reed, president of the Tumbleweed Girl Page 10 & 11 Garden City Telegram Saturday, 1963 Scout Council, explained: "Girls are growing up faster today than they did when Girl ! Scouting Started. These new age ! groupings make it possible for j Girl Scout troop activities to cor- i respond more closely than ever : to their changing needs and in| terests." During the week, Cadette Senior Scouts, working with Girl Scout adult volunteers, will bei assisting equipment agency departments with tile sale of the new handbooks. Each scout purchasing a handbook during the week of Sept. 9 through Sept. 14 will receive a bookplate sticker 1 certifying purchase of the first edition during the first week of sale. Girl Scout leaders, as well as the girls themselves, are eagerly awaiting the first appearance of the new handbooks, according to Mrs. Reed. "The cooperation we are receiving is tremendous," she said. "I'm sure it's because everyone is so enthusiatic about these | beautiful new books. We're all j anxious to see that every Girl ' Scout has her own copy." "Many of our leaders received special training las* spring in the new design in Girl Scout program. Man's Will Ruled Invalid OLATHE, Kan. (AP) — The hand-written will of the late Dr. Jack A. Haley, who was shot to death last July, has been declared invalid. His wife, named as the beneficiary, has been charged with first degree murder in the slaying. Judge Herbert W. Walton held the document was invalid because it had not been signed at the end, and ordered it be rejected for probate. The physician's wife Mrs. Doris V. Haley, and his brother, Wendell E. Haley of Den- vet were listed as witnesses on the notebook paper will dated Feb. 8, 1962. Value of the estate was placed at $70,000. Mrs. Haley, now living with her parents near Boonville, Mo., is free under a $25,000 bond. Dr. Haley was shot six times in his Prairie Village, Kan home July 17.
