Garrett, Lefors, Dodge Woman Reporter To Be Honored At Baptist Meet CORPUS CHR1STI (Spl) veteran 67-year old news reporte who says she has had printers in in her veins for more than 5 years was named Wednesday win ner of the annual Texas Baptist press award. Mrs. Florence Patton, church editor for the Corpus Christ! Caller-Times, will receive the award at the onnual Baptist General Convention of Texas, meeting in Austin.Nov. 7-9. She is the first woman ever to receive, the annual Baptist award. Selected by a nine-member Texas Baptist public relations advisory committee for "outstanding contribitions to Christianity through journalism," Mrs. Patlon will be awarded a lapel watch and an award certificate by Convention President .T-ames H, Lancles of Wichita Falls. The veteran news reporter was nominated to receive the award by Corpus Christ! Baptist leaders, who praised her reporting of Baptist news in the Caller-Times. A native of Wellington, K«n., Mrs. Patton got her start in newspaper work when she was 14 years old. While in high school she worked in the summer at a Wellington paper setting hand type. For more than 22 years Mrs. Patton w-as a reporter for the Wichita Evening Eagle in Wiclv ita, Kan., covering naarly every news bent on the paper excepl sports and society.
