THE CORSICANA SEMI-WEEKLY LIGHT, TUESDAY, HEALTH, BEAUTY AND POISE HOW TO IMPROVE TOUB PERSONALITY By VERONICA DENQEI. INSPECT YOUR bed- way POSTURE When you go Into your ture. I mean not only the room tonight—Inspect your pos- you hold your head and chest and hips, but notice what you do with your feet when you stand Foot placement Is Important still. Don't try to assume what you know to, be g correct position—just see how your feet look «• you would place them naturally and unconsciously. AH right — are they several Inches apart, Are the toes turned out at too sharp an angle—or turned Inward? You know, when you- stand with your feet apart, the line from your hip downward Is widened considerably and pounds are added to your apparent weight. Don't turn the toes Inward or outward very much, because then the balance of the body Is Incorrect, and as you step forward the movement will not bo graceful. Try this—place the weight squarely on the left foot, keeping the knee easy—not stiff. Then place the heel of the right foot close to the arch of the left foot, with the knee ever so slightly bent, you will give the effect of poise and ease, and add a great measure of grace to your appearance. Now, check on these points: The abdomen should be flat, and the buttocks "tucked In." The chest should bo up—but not out— and this applies to the chin also. "Think" tall from the waistline to the armpit and your shoulders will straighten themselves. Do you see what I mean? And practice holding your arms and hands gracefully. Too many people seem at a loss as to what to do with their hands unless they have something to hold on to. Never twiddle at beads, or clutch yourself In a "washwoman" pose. You'll only add years to your age—and who wants to do that? One of the greatest assets that an actress can have Is the ability to use her hands and feet well. It takes thought and practice, but Is worth while when people comment upon the fact that your clothes are smarter this year, and that you seem more alive and youthful. Work on It—won't you?
