A Central Press Feature he would lead the club K and, if it was not covered by the A, put forth the J, and in case it too was not topped, would overtake it with the Q. That would enable him to lead a third club and clear the suit while he retained the spade K in dummy as a sure reentry. That plan was perfect and would have given South eleven tricks, with only two lost to aces. But after he won with the hearc and club kings and led the club J, he had a momentary lapse and played low from dummy instead of putting on the Q. The next fraction of a second, he realized what he had done, so looked for some other chance. He led to the spade K, brought back a second spade and let West in with the 10. Upon winning the heart return with the Q, he laid down the spade A, hoping for an even break which would give him three tricks in that suit and game despite his carl3' slip. But when West failed to follow suit on the A he : 'knew he was licked. He raked in two dtamrmds. thon gave up the last four tricks to be set one. * M * Tomorrow's Problem 4 10632 ^ 108 + KJ752 A 104 A 8 i 1M 4 A 10 9 4 A A Q 9 6 4 KQ9T ^ AKQ95 -0-Q3 AK5 (Dralcr: South. •North-South vulnerable.)
