13 DAILY NEWSNYDailyNews.com Friday, April 10, 2015 The mayor 'misspoke' on frisk biz MAYOR DE BLASIO exaggerated the effectiveness of his reforms of the NYPD's stop-and-frisk program in an address to a predominantly black audience. Speaking in prepared remarks to the Rev. Al Sharpton's National Action Network Wednesday, de Bla-sio compared his application of the controversial crime-fighting tactic to th way it was done under Michael Bloomberg. Under Bloomberg, he said, "There were over 700,000 stops-and-frisks of people in this city, the vast majority of whom were young men of color, the vast majority of whom were innocent in every way shape and form." He then touted what he said was his record on use of the tactic. "That number is 40,000 and the people being stopped are people who have done something wrong," de Blasio said.

In 2014 his first year as mayor the NYPD made 46,235 stops, according to NYPD records. Only 18 of those resulted in arrests. In 201 1 the year that saw the highest amount of recorded stops under Bloomberg 12 of the 685,724 stops recorded led to arrests. Under de Blasio, 55 of those stopped were African-American and 29 were Latinos virtually the same as every year since 2003 A spokesman for the mayor said he "misspoke." But Monifa Bandele of Communities United for Police Reform said, "Our city's top public official is falsely criminalizing tens of thousands of New Yorkers the majority of whom are black or Latino who were stopped by police last year and found to be doing nothing wrong. Gracie Mansion has a leaky roof riddled with asbestos, Mayor de Blasio said on Thursday. "There have definitely been some live leaks at Gracie Mansion and I mean leaks where the water drips down from the roof, not the other kind of leaks," de Blasio said. Workers trying to fix the roof discovered the Blasio and his family, who moved from their Park Slope rowhouse in 2014, will continue living in the mansion while work is under way. De Blasio again for reasons "not immediately clear" then waxed on about the 1960s cartoon "Underdog." "I loved 'Underdog' so much," he said.

The morning ended on another surreal note. The normally tardy De Blasio began his press conference 10 minutes early. jferminonydailynews.com The federal bill funding infrastructure improvements will expire on May 3 1 unless Congress acts. As the ride continued, the two pols who clearly crack each other up began talking in mock Boston accents for "reasons unclear," according to the pool report. "Wicked fahh," said de Blasio, who is from Massachusetts but claims he never picked up the state's distinctive accent.

"Green Monstahhh," Schumer Lone rangers FIRST LADY Chirlane McCray and Mayor de Blasio are dreaming about some alone time when son Dante (photo) goes off to college but it will be fleeting, McCray said Thursday. "It really is a turning point for us," McCray said on Hot 97. Dante, who has already been accepted to Yale and Brown, is set to start college in the fall. But McCray said the empty nest at Gracie Mansion will be shortlived older daughter Chiara is planning to move home when she graduates. "They never really go away," McCray said.

"Chiara has already warned us, it's only one year that Dante's in college and she's in college at the same time. She says she's gonna be back." Erin Durkin BY JENNIFER FERMINO EW YO DAI LY EWS MAYOR DE Blasio's move to draw attention to the importance of mass transit funding began with a chauffeured ride to the subway in a gas-guzzling SUV and then it got really weird. De Blasio met with Sen. Chuck Schumer Thursday morning for a Brooklyn to City Hall train ride in honor of "Stand Up for Transportation Day," a bipartisan push calling for Congress to fund infrastructure improvements. The mayor was driven to Brooklyn by his NYPD detail, first stopping at the Park Slope where he works out, then meeting Schumer -who lives in the neighborhood for a coffee at 7:30 a.m.

The two swiped and boarded the system at the Fourth Ave.Ninth St. stop, and promptly began lobbying commuters about the need for increased fundingfortran-sit, roads and bridges, according to a pool report..
