Counfy Agent Completed Form Aids In Census By t. M. VAUGHAN Qie of the biggest farmer- governmetil cooperative undertakings of this decade will get underway In October and continue through November. K is the 17thnationwidecensus in which farmers andtheUnited States governmenthavepartici- pated during the past 120 years.- Information gained from this agricultural census will have a vital influence on future planning. More than 30,000 census takers will visit farm families throughout the nation to get in•formation in three general fields... .farm resources, farm products sold in 1959 and selected farming activities for this year. Two weeks before the census begins, questionnaires will be wiled to farmers by the Census Bureau. Farm operators sliould complete these forms and liave them ready for tliecensus taker when he calls. AU information given byafarmer is confidential and figures for individual farms will not be revealed. * The big job gets underway on 'Oct. 7 in far South Texas and • week later work will begin la 34 additional counties! On Nov. 18, work will begin in all other counties of tlie state. Farm records will be very taportant and all farm families should havetheirrecordsavail- able and as complete as possi- Me when the censustakercalls. By providing complete and accurate records, the time of the taker will be conserved and the Census Bureau will be able to process and publish their findings without delay. ***** A new kind of watermelon that grows on bushes has been developed by Texas A&M Horticulturist Hibert Molir. The watermelon can be grown in the backyard. '. Here are socne of its other advantages... It's compact, oc- 'cupying a space no more than Six feet wide. Comparethiswith the standard typeof watermelon vine that covers space as much as 20 feet wide. Being compact, the area around the vines is easy to cultivate. And the vines are easy to reach for dusting and spraying. • These are not midget melons, however. They weigh from 25 to 35 pounds/just the right size to go in the refrigerator. Dense foliage onthevinespro- tea the melons from sunburn'. The thick foliage also discourages weeds, an advantage thar- borne gardeners will like. Seed are now on the market for the Bush Desert King which was developed at Texas A&M. It has the disadvantage of being yellow meated, but Mohr has already succeeded in breeding a red flesh watermelon of the bush type. THUBSDAY OCT. 8th CLARK BUICK PONTIAC op.
