ON THE ROAD TO SURFSIDE Hwy 332 233-6781 action on several Issues of Importance, —Vndorlaken and partially completed the largest community beautlflca- tlon program ever programmed for a single year. -Established Initial contact with all major oil companies six months before the granting of offshore exploration leases In this area. -Maintained an extensive program of tourist and visitor attraction. -Promoted and brought to planning phase a new state park. -Monitored, guided and accelerated key portions of the area road-building program. _ Helped establish Die Texas Independence Trail through this area, -Assisted with bringing several contentions and special events to Brazos- port. — Complete'! an industrial site map and instituted a new site selection system toassist industrial prospects. — Published a new Bra- /.osport information folder. — Obtained a new Coast Guard cutter to replace the decommissioned CGC Legare. which would otherwise not have been replaced here. — Implemented the correct positioning of flood control gates in the Old Brazos Channel. —Sought to interest a number of shrimp industry leaders to move their homes and business headquarters lie re. —Obtained restroom facilities on local beaches. -Undertaken a major, comprehensive stud;, of floi'J control, drainage, water resources and storm protection needs of the area. -Conducted Career Day for Braznsport Senior High School students, -Conducted Practical Politics Course for all interested persons in the area. — Designated and maintained a' ''Chamlier Holiday" schedule for local business firms. —Hosted events and awarded prizes to promote Brazosport as Texas' sport-fishing and outdoor recreation center. -Conducted special program to welcome new residents to Brazosport. In cooperation with industry and schools. — Nearly completed (lie new Chamber Center permanent quarters in the center of Brazosporl. -Made progress in the promotion of local scheduled airline service. —Completed an overall "waste collection and discharge map' 1 of Brazos- port. now in use by sewer system planning engineers. —Continued to sponsor Explorer Scout post specializing in business. — Assisted with annual Brazosport Fishin' Fiesta. -Participated in "Texas Industrial Week," "Public Schools Week." and other special commemorative programs. -Been represented at all significant regional and state meetings, seminars and conferences. —Completed a legislative issue opinion survey of local business leaders. — Assisted the Brazos- port Coast Guard Station in improving access roadway to Station. These are some highlight-; of the liiKi I.---; -jr. Utilization's activities so far in IOCS. There have been more, and there will be more, during the remaining three and one-half months of the 1008 program.
