"Woody" Shr u m who is joining the sales staff of {he local Ford distributor. Short, who has been a resident of (he city for the past 50 years, is a graduate of Paris H i g h School. He is a member of the First Methodist Church, the -Masonic Lodge and the Commandery. The Shorts have three children, Mrs. Robert Leland Fikes of Richardson, Robert L. Short of Paris and Louis R. Short of Dallas. Short, a veteran automotive service man, was previously - employed by the Lamar Chevrolet Co., and the Burtrum-Woolst o n Chevrolet Co. Hugo Rainfall Near* Average For 15 Years Oklahoma News Bureau HUGO, Okla. — Local rainfall for the calendar year of 1960 | lacks only about eight inches of j reaching the annual average fig- j ured on a long term of approxi-1 mately 25 years by Weather Ob- i server Max Echols, of Hugo. Tola 1 , thus far this year stood Friday noon at 38.74 inches com- : parp.L 1 to the annual long-term average of 46.78. Echols' records show September, with 8.55 inches and May, ! \vi;ii 7.18 as the two wettest months of the year. June was the driest, 1.96 inches, with March rating second with 1.99 inches. October's rainfall already totaled, as of noon Friday, 3.23 inches, compared with the average of 3.47. Other averages for the remainder of the year are November, 3.48 and December, 3.19. Wettest October on record here was in 1954, when the late Dr. A. H. Davis recorded an official 17.65 inches in a year which had a total rainfall of 49.10. Rainfall in October, 1919, totaled 17.39 inches, the annual being 47.01 inches. Two other 17-plus monthly total rainfalls have been recorded in Hugo since 1913, when the first official records were kept. One of these was the all-time record high, 17.66 in May, 1920. July, 1926, brought 17.10 inches of rainfall. Wettest year shown on records was 1926, when the total was 66.57. Bottle 'Explosion 7 Basis of Damages Sought by Hugoan Oklahoma News HUGO, Okla. — Damages totaling $10,000 are asked in a district court action filed in Hugo against the Coca-Cola Bottling Company of Paris, Texas. Mrs. Oda Potts of Hugo alleges painful and permanent injury to her right hand and wrist, with permanent stiffness and imp a i r- ment of the fingers, in an accident at " .- Potts Do-Nut Shop in Hugo last July 25. She alleges a bottle "exploded" in her hand while she was moving it, claiming the "explosion" was due to a "defect in the glass bottle. 1 ' She alleges contents of the bottle were charged with excessive gas under pressure.
