Texas Junior College Poll Favors Nixon TYLER (AP)—A junior college straw vote conducted by television station KLTV in its listening area showed a preference for Vice President Richard Nixon, the Republican candidate for president. Nixon polled 1,634 voles to 1,250 for Sen. John Kennedy, the Democrat. In n separate vote for vice president, Republican Henry Cabot Lodge led the Texas senator, Lyndon Johnson, 1,412 to 1,377. The students arc not of voting age, however. At Lon Morris Junior College, a Baptist institution at Jacksonville, Kennedy got only four votes. Other junior colleges polled were Tyler, Kilgore, Henderson at Athens, Panola at Carthage, Paris, Texarkana, Jacksonville and Butler at Tyler. Scout Troop 1 Forms New Unit Boy Scout Troop 1, sponsored by the Ce n t r a i Presbyter! a n Church and The Paris News, organized one new patrol and held an election of new junior leaders at its weekly meeting.
