Police Chief N. H. Lassiler's August report of criminal offenses again showed intoxication leading the list. During the month, 102 prisoners were processed for various offenses and stolen property recovered was valued at $21!? W Freeport police handled 23 auto accident investigations in August, bringing the total to 1S3 (or the year as compared to 175 for the same period of 1961. Officers issued 314 traffic violation tickets in August, bringing the 1962 total to 1,467 as compared to 945 for the first eight months of 1961. Speeding was again the leading violation, with 79 tickets issued In August. Other violations were, no operator's license, 56; failure to stop for red light, 48; vehicle equipment, 46; turns, 1.9; miscellaneous, lg; failure to stop for stop sign, 16; wrong side and overtak- ng, 12; failure to yield right of way, six; following too closely, and vehicle size, weight and re- pstration, five each ; and parking wrong place, four tickets. Criminal offenses last month in- •luded, intoxication, 49; disorder- y conduct, miscellaneous offens- s, 18 each; theft (except auto), 2; aggravated ar-rault, nine; em- ezzlement and fraud cases, eight; riving law violations, seven; bur- lary and vagrancy, thrc<= each; Msscssiori of unlawful weapons, wo; and sex offenses, one. No auto thefts, and no hit and un accidents were reported dur- ng August when officers handled 333 calls and drove 16,667 miles in arrying Out various duties and atrols.
