Texas State Fair Begins Saturday DALLAS — It'll be a big weekend in "Big D," as the State Fair of Texas opens its 16-day run Saturday, October a, with the gigantic Diamond Jubilee Exposition celebrating its 75th anniversary year. Two of I lie major Stale Fail- events get under way on the eve of the opening. "Flower Drum Song" in the Mu.sic Hall and the State Fair Horse Show featuring Arthur Godfrey will both op e n Friday nighl, October 7. The big opening day parade through downtown Dallas will take place Saturday morning and will include the riders and wagons from the first annual Shawn e e Trail Drive. Following the parade, v. Price Daniel will snip a rib- aon at the main gate to officially open the 19GO State Fair. The Texas-Oklahoma footb a 11 game, one of the nation's classic gridiron rivalries, will be played before o capacity Cotton Bowl crowd Saturday afternoon. Arthur Godfrey will appear with his famous Palomino stallion, Goldie, at the Horse Show performances at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Oct- 7 and 3, and at the 2 p.m. matinee Sunday, Oct. 9. "Flower Drum Song," the Rodgers and Hammerstein Broadway musical hit, and "Ice Capades," the greatest show on ice, are the top theatrical attractions of the I960 Fair and each will have numerous performances throughout the run of the Fair. A total of 5,137 entries will compete in the various livestock and horse show events. Premiums total more than $120,000 for the Pan-American Livestock Exposition Oct. 8-1C, the Junior Li v e- slock Show the second week and ! the three series of Horse Shows. Historical Society Owns Own Oil Well OKLAHOMA CITY (AP)—The Oklahoma Historical Society.: is now the owner of its own oil.well. But the now-depleted site will be a sight-seeing attraction rather than a producer. . Elmer Fraker, administrator of the society, Tuesday announced donation of the well after' two years of negotiation with the British-American Oil Co., Phillips Petroleum Co. and Harper Oil Co., the well's former owners. It is located'on the grounds ol the historical building. Nursing Student Aggie Sweetheart DENTON (AP)—A,-junior nursing student at Texas , Woman't University, Louise Kuehii of .Corpus Christi, was named 'Aggie Sweetheart Tuesday, by Texai A&M judges. Miss Kuehn was one of 13 university sweetheart finalists who were hostesses to the judges last weekend. The Aggie sweetheart will b» presented at the -halftime ceremonies of the A&M-SMU' footb a 11 game Nov. 5'in Dallas. The most southern point in the United States is KaLae on' th* Island of Hawaii. ATE BROTHER'S BUGS—Tim Kendrick, 21-months- old, sits with his mother, Mrs. John Kendrick, after he ale his brother's collection of dried bugs which were to have been submitted as a school project. The collector, Clifton, had spent more than a month assembling the collection. The Milwaukee Public Museum is sending the elder Kendrick youth a new collection which he hopes he will get before his little brother lays hands on it.
