Klckoff is set for 8:00 p.m. As the Cougars snoofc off their 16-0 loss to Ole Miss and began thinking in terms of Alabama, practice field manipulations of personnel Indicated that two newcomer* had won battlefield promotions. Quarterback Gerald Ripkow- ski (Liberty) and fullback Pete Burks (Longvlew) were attired In white Jersles Monday afternoon, a sign of promotion to the first team. Rlpkowskl, a Junior college All-American at Del Mar JC last year, had moved ahead of senior lettermen Lonni* Holland tPlalnview) and Don McDonald (Sherman). Burks is a spirited and tough sophomore whose desire and structure reminds longtime Houston observers of • former Cougar great, Paul (Rock) Carr, who became a regular with the San'Francisco 49ers after graduation. Though Burks does not yet hit with the same, authority as Carr did from his linebacking post, the lad from Longview does have more speed and is a more dangerous ball carrier. Whll» H&kowtM Md Burte were the only changes In the starting team, there were numerous other changes made behind the canvas-covered picket fence on Cullen Blvd. Just as Head Coach Harold jLahar had promised before the season opener, the changes indicated the heavy emphasis to be placed on giving the younger boys * chance. The alternate team, as posted in the .varsity dressing room before practice, listed ten sophomores on the second eleven. MaapaaroMMMiffiJJro^^ * |TJSE OttE EASY PAY PLAN!
