Lee's ability to sing in Spanish: -won him the job over2C3 Latins 'who auditioned for it. Soon -Lee found himself doubling 'as vocalist for both Ougat and'FKil Harris, who was also playing the "Grove" at the time. ' '-, At "the termination of this engagement, .both Cugat and Harrisr left- Los Angeles foi tour of the nation, but Lee preferred )o stay in L.A. He joined -Jay Whiddens band and shared .the vocal spotlight with a -young lady by th« name of Betty Grable. Lee spent four years with this band and' toured the top night spots in the county. After this period, Lee took an offer to join the famous dance team, Veloz and Volanda for an extended tour of the nation terminating with a long engagement at the Waldorf Astoria in" New York. In the meantime, Lee had gotten .[married and became a father." So, • wanting to settle down in one place, in 1937, he became' staff "vocalist at Radio Station' WKY in Oklahoma CityVrHe stayed there until World .War II, when ha joined a camp, show arid played every Aroiy,";Navy and Marine camp froiniBangor, Me. to Key West, Flojclda with one Herb Shrlner. In 'i944 Lee returned to' WKY, wherejhe stayed until coming to ; Houston in 1947 to assume the, singing chores on the "Gratia,, Prize Show". Since that time Lee has entertained KPRC and KPHC- TVs listeners and viewers with his 'fine' voice, his famous characters Pancho, Patheringay and Urieje 2eb and his keen sense of Tiunibr. Efe-has appeared, on many/shows (TV, Radio & Per- soniTAppearances) with Curly Fox and Miss Ruby, as a regular.
