(AP) The University of Kansas has completed plans for a $1.8 million renovation of the 56-year- old Memorial Stadium, where the Jayhawks play football. J. Hammond McNish, KU faculty representative to the National Collegiate Athletic Association and the Big Eight Conference and chairman of the university's athletic board, said the board had requested a $1.8 million loan from the KU Endowment Association, which has been approved. The money will be repaid over no more than 15 years by a surcharge on football tickets. That surcharge will amount to $1 on public tickets, 75 cents or 50 cents on faculty and staff tickets, depending upon the type of ticket, and 50 cents on student tickets. The project will be started as weather permits, with a projected completion dale of next Sept. 1. The Jayhawks open their 1978 grid season against Texas A and M in Memorial Stadium on Sept. 9. The renovation will cover six major areas: -Concrete restoration, waterproofing and new seating. -Replacement of the ar- tificial turf. -Renovation of dressing rooms. -Renovation of public facilities. -Renovation and expansion of the press box. -Miscellaneous repairs, including electrical, water and sewer lines, renovation of concession areas, lighting, paving and graphics and painting. 1 Hd. SUNDAY SPECIAL SERVING ALL DAY SOUTHERN FRIED CHICKEN Traditionally most menus today and for the next several days will contain turkey in some form or another. That LENNOX" weather machine you have is no turkey. Pound for pound it's about the best buy around. Coaches' ranks in the Big Eight football conference have been decimated. Two are missing, K-State and Missouri, and one is barely hanging on to his contract. A LENNOX" weather machine can be replaced. Usually it's with a newer and more efficient model.
