He pleaded not guilty to the charge of robbing a few night previously, the Golden State limited, the Rock Island rain, which was running over the Chicago Alton tracks. Both robber-es were committed between Skater and Glasgow, Mo. Rumsey hasbeen identified as the who held up both trains. Single handed he went through the -caches of both trains, forcing the train men togo ahead of him and or-Jer the passengers to give up their valuables.

He was overpowered by Conductor Heywood in the "Early Bird" robbery after a fierce struggle. The money and jewelry were returned o'the passengers and the robber was 'anded in j'ail four hours after the "robbery was committed.
