PERFECTION IN ARCHES MR BARNHILL On The Opening of The IKflipXi figiiiilmji (iiTTf utsyv scattered liberally throughout the lower floors supplemented by high-bac-antique chairs the latter formerly the property of the college -The floors -are of oak resanded and highly polished Forty-five bedrooms of the inn all newly papered and otherwise renovated are ready for occupancy On the second and third floors of Preston Hall are 24' rooms with private baths and showers on one -floor of Manah Cooper Hall are nine rooms with baths and showers and on the third floo of Litchfield Hall are 12 rooms with running water the baths and lavatories located in the hill More Rooms Will Be Developed Property Developed and Will Be Operated by Barnhill Well Known Hotel Man BEAUTIFUL MARTHA WASHINGTON 'INN iVe were chosen to do all PLUMBING and HEATING anchor ICOISTOKER Twenty-eight more rooms with baths and showers will be opened in Manah Cooper Hall by August 15t and within another two months the will have available more than 100 rooms Of these sixty will have private baths and showers twelve or more will have connecting baths and the remainder will have water alone An additional fifty or more rooms will be opened from time to time as needed to accommodate guests Expected to prove one of the most popular spots on the entire premises is the big dining room on the lower floor of Litchfield Hall approached by Corridor from the mam building The room opened to the public yesterday has a seating capacity of 160 and more can be accommodated if necessary The tables are so arranged that the friends The Inn formerly the Martha Washington College property is managed by Barnhill known throughout the Appalachian region Mr Barnhill has been in the hotel business for many 5 ears ten as manager of Hotel Bristol Mr assistants include James Willoughby Joe Edmondson and Williams all of Abingdon clerks and Mrs Barnhill in charge of the kitchen and dining rooms The Inn proper consists of three buildings connected by spacious corridors The center building is Preston Hall built in 1832-34 by General Francis Preston to the east is Litchfield Hall and to the west Manah Cooper Hal added to the original after the property was taken over in 1860 by the Holston Conference of the Methodist Episcopal Church South to be converted into the college for young women Beauty Impresses The Visitor The an old clock presented to the college by Mrs Sallie Floyd daughter of General Preston and wife of General John Floyd of Civil War fame later governor of Virginia Opposite the entrance la a magnificent
