Body Of Lynched Negro Found In River BOGALUSA, La. (AP) _ Two peace officers dragged the body of Mack Charles Parker, the Pop- larvffle, Miss., lynch victim, from the receding waters of the Pearl River near Bogalusa Monday. The FBI iq Washington announced identification of the bleached body. The gruesome discovery by an FBI agent and a Mississippi high way patrolman pinned down the fate of the 23-year-old Negro, charged with the rape of a preg' nant white woman, It didn't lead officers any closer —apparently—to the hooded mob that kidnaped Parker from his jail cell in Poplarville on April 25, two days, before his trial was sched uled to start. The FBI agent and his companion spotted'the head, one arm and a shoulder above the water line in a drift three miles south of the Poplarville-Bogalusa bridge across the Pearl River. Swirling currents lodged the body's left foot in the fork of a tree. The nlg],t raiders who dragged Parker from the Poplarville jail by his heels stripped Parker of all his clothes except an undershirt and a pair of shorts. The coroner at Bogalusa's Char- Hy Hospital did not say how Parker died, except to report a bad spot on the right side of the head. No one attempted to estimate how long the body had been in the water. A gang of eight or 10 men wear ing masks and white gloves broke into the Poplarville jail, about 20 miles from here, shortly after midnight April 25, savagely beat Parker, dragged him screaming down the steps from his third- story cell and threw him into a waiting car. Fellow prisoners said he yelled he was innocent as the men took him from the jail. Warrants charging the mob with cidnaping are on file, but Pearl River County, Miss., officials said new charges had been fUed against the men. The rape Parker was accused of occurred Feb. 25 near Lumber- on, Miss. The victim and her 5- year-old daughter were sitting in l stalled car waiting for her bus >and to return with help. She said i a Negro in a black automobile drove up, threatened ier with a gun, forced her and the child to get into his car and drove them Into a wooded area where he raped her as the child watched. The 24-year-old woman later picked Parker from a 25-man lineup. Grand Jury To Consider Case TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) — The Leon County grand jury has been summoned into special session Wednesday to consider the case of four white men charged with the mass rape of a Negro co-ed. The jury had been scheduled to take up the case June 1, but the date was shoved up by Circuit Court Judge W. May Walker at the request of State Atty. William D. Hopkins because of "the great public interest." The four are in the county jail. Florida A. & M. University students who boycotted classes Monday as part of a demonstration to focus attention on the case said they would return to school today. The 19-year-old Tallahassee girl was taken from her escort at gunpoint early Saturday following a college dance. A sheriff's deputy captured the four men after a 95- mile an hour chase. The girl, bound and gagged, was still in their car. Florida forbids publication of a rape victim's name. Those arrested were Patrick G. Scarborough, 20, Tallahassee, an Air Force man on leave from a change in station from Alaska; William Collinsworth, 24, a telephone lineman; David Ervin Bag- Jes, 18, a high school student; and Ollie Stoutamire, 16. To Fire Animal into Space Soon MIAMI BEACH, Fla. (AP)-The United States will fire a live animal, probably an ape, into space within the next 60 days, says the chief of the Army's space program. Maj. Gen, John B. Medaris, commander of the Army Ordnance Missile Command, did not say what type of animal would ride in the nose cone of a Jupiter missile ,but he indicated the best guess would be a monkey. He told of the coming venture at a news conference Monday. The launching will be another step in the program aimed to put a man in space. An effort will be made to recover the nose cone after it plunges earthward through the atmosphere. Admits Slaying Of Mother-ln-Law ALTON, Mo. (AP) — Richard Miller, 27, pleaded guilty yesterday to slaying his mother-in-law and was given a 25-year prison term. Mrs. Lorena Stulli 45, of Caney, Kan., was shot during a family argument at Miller's home i n Calm, Mo., Feb. 24. The charge was reduced from first to second degree murder. Wounded seriously in the altercation was John Hull, 64, Miller's father-in-law and Mrs. Stull's former husband. He hat recovered. Grain Alcohol Rubbing Alcohol 35c a Bottle JOHN G.
