EDT7AZID nsTizemn Fully two hundred people I were present at the ball park yesterday to witness the foot-ball game between the University of Tennessee boys and Vanderbilt's eleven. The unfavorable weather prevented many of Knoxville's fair ones from attending, though several were present, and their faces added much to cheer the boys who fought manfully against muscle, rain and mud.

Both teams arrived at 2:30, and spent several minutes in practice. The game was called at 3:10. U. of T. wins the toss, taking the ball and Vanderbilt takes the west goal.

Average weight, Vanderbilt 165, U. of Things looked squally for a time yesterday afternoon on account of a fire on Market square, which threatened to play particular havoc In the rear of Mr. i George Albera' drug store on the east side of market house, is a building in which that merchant keeps his oils, varnishes, etc A few minutes past three o'clock a colored boy in the employ of Mr.

Albers went into the oil house for the pur-pose of taking down a varnish barrel which was about empty and putting a full one back in its place. According to the story of the boy, he had just lifted the barrel from the rack to the ground when it suddenly became enveloped in flames. i An alarm was quickly turned in and the city hall company was soon on i the spot. Chief Dunn, seeing the great danger, turned in a second alarm, bringing the Central market company to i the scene. I It was a dangerous fire and a dangerous task to fight it, but still the boys stood to theirposts and soon had it extinguished.

The head of one oil barrel blew out during the time, making things lively. 1 i After the blaze had been extinguished it was found that several of the barrels were badly charred but that their contents had not been reached. Had the oil been reached, the blaze would, no doubt, have been a serious one to handle. I Mr. Albers estimates that his loss will not exceed two hundred dollars and can account for the origin of the fire only in this way, that perhaps a match had been dropped on the floor and that the hoy, who protests he was not smoking, dropped the nearly empty barrel upon it.

It seemed impossible to stop these rushes without some gain. Smith and Reed, of the U. T. team, do some excellent tackling, stopping Connell and Barr on a loss of some yards. Jones makes two yards through center; Connell goes through center for twelve yards and lands between the goal poBts, making first touchdown for Vanderbilt.
