Gering Court Gives Hizel Life Sentence Gering John Hizel 42, of Mitchell was sentenced to life imprisonment Monday for second degree murder in the Oct. 11 pistol death of Elbert Elugene Hendren, 36 of Mitchell. District Judge Ted R. Feidler pronounced sentence after overruling a motion for a new trial. Hizel was convicted by a district court jury Feb.

20. The shooting stemmed from what witnesses at Hizel's trial termed a celebration over admission to a hospital. Hizel and his stepsons were arguing and Hendren, who lived nearby, heard the noise and came out. He was fatally wounded with a pistol shot. Autopsy Results Are Awaited In Beatrice Death Beatrice Results of an autopsy were being awaited to determine whether the death of Earl William Lines, 53, of Beatrice, would be counted as a traffic fatality.

Lines was injured Jan. 1 and died Sunday night in a Beatrice hospital. said a car driven by Lines was struck on Highway 77, south of Beatrice, from the rear by an auto driven by J. Steven Johnson, also of Beatrice. Officers said it was foggy at the time.
