P. Swank yesterday afternoon. The hearing was in the courthouse in Erie and was largely attended. The attorney for Mr. Smith gave notice of an appeal to district court.

County Attorney T. F. Morrison reresented the other side. He placed a number of witnesses on the stand to show that Mr. Smith was incompetent of managing his own affairs.

The latter, a Civil War veteran, receives a pension of $50 a month. No testimony was introduced by the defense. Instead, it presented a demurer, asking that the procedings be dismissed on the ground that the evidence offered did not prove the allegation. Raids have been carried out by Scotland yard detectives on alleged Bolshevik meeting places and offices and it is reported that sensational discoveries have been made.
