BLOOM HEART, WRIGHT FOOTWEAR SPECIALTIES. New BIG CREEK BRINGS IN ONE BIGGER THAN NO.1. GREAT CAS FIELD EAST Other Gas and Oil News of Interest- Many Leases Taken in South End of the County Near the Island. The Big Creek Oil and Gas. Co.

brought in another gas gusher this morning, a thousand feet or more east of their No. on the Gibson farm east of Chanute. The well wjuld have been brought in a week or more ago, but it caved in several times and drilling was delayed. The sand was reached at about the same depth as in No. 1, and is about the same kind of a well, although it is thought to be even bigger than it.

The sand was penetrated from ten to fifteen feet. Dr. Fay came in at noon, and says the roar of the well can be heard jor miles around. Well No. 1 was estimated at from eight to ten million cubic feet, so the good luck of this company is apparent, even if they did not get any oil, as they were hoping to, in this well.

Some trace of oil was found, but none in paying quantity. These two wells show that a big gas field lies east of Chanute, and means a good deal for that section of the country, The company will have no difficulty in disposing of gas. To the east is Ft. Scott, to the south east Pittsburg, either of which would be delighted to get connected with tlie gas belt by pipe line, which is but one of the ways the company can easily dispose of its big find. The location of a third well has not yet been determined.

St. Paul Journal: Gas and oil men are leasing land rapidly around Sav-onburg, Moran, Elsmore, Stark and the northern part of this county. An Ohio syndicate is also leasing a lot of land in the vicinity of Parsons and report that two drills will begin work there within ninety days. St. Paul is between these two scenes of activity hence all our people are interested in a special way.

This has awakened interest in the well west of town, and there are several men who believe a pipe line should be laid from this well to town as there is plenty of gas in this well to light the town, and possibly enough for heating purposes, also. If the city does not wish to do It, there iaprivate capital ready, to do it if suitable arrangements cau be made with the city. It is reported that one or two gas wells are soon to be drilled in East Lincoln near the Island The gas was found at Wmfield Saturday evening, and a big well was struck a few days ago at Moline. These two weils knock out the theories of geologists. There is reason to believe several more of their theories will be knocked out soon.

Savonburg Record: Capt. Gibson and N. W. Henry ot Chanute were in town Wednesday looking after- the leasing of some land on Big Creek for an oil and gas company. tfr it Benedict Courier Items: Hugh Far- relly and M.

T. Jones of Chanute were over Friday taking oil leases. They got the Lee Prunty lease south-and west of Hugh Farrelly and Bob Barkley were over Wednesday looking for more leases Bob Bark- ley of Chanute was over Saturday and secured a lease on the Donahue land for the Pacific Oil Gas Co. T. O'- Neil, of Webb City, will be In the field leasing for gas and oil the last of this week.

That will make six or seven different companies around Benedict Jack Massey and tlobt. Bark-ley of Chanute were here ou business last week. Bob is tbe produce busi ness and was looking after our mer chants a little. Humboldt Union: George Z. Work is making arrangements to pump his oil wells.

He will have several of them, and all good producers. -Cr Elsmore Enterprise: J. L. Lyen, formerly of Moran, but for several years a banker in Chanute, was here a couple of days last week in the in terest of a new oil and gas company formed at Chanute, with a view of prospecting the territory between Stark and Moran, making Savonburg and Elsmore the center of operations, Mr. Lyen sold his bank in Chanute a year ago and has since been engaged in the oil and gas business, being a di rector and stockholder in several Cha nute companies and has made the question a careful study.

He seemed confident that the "Big Creek coun try" as he called that east of Big Creek and extending from about Mo ran to tbe mouth of Big Creek, con tains both gas and oil in paying quantities. He has taken the matter up with men of considerable capita, who are willing to spend a few th ousand dollars in prospecting and 11 gas or oil, or as is more iiKeiy ootu, are found will fully develop the Geld. The Katy Oil and Gas company will uave men at work taking leases and will doubtless begin work within the next ninety days We are Informed that a1 of for ter 90 4 of to 25 A be plenty doing. Buffalo Advocate: E. Shaw was over from Chanute Saturday on business connected with, the proposed brick plant.

While here he rented the vacant room adjoining the post-ofllc for an office for the company. Mr. haw was met hereby Mr. Mes- sick, vhc lately contracted to drill five wells for the brick plans people, and together they located the first well. It is to be on the place pur chased from G.

B. Morgan near the northwest corner of the tract, on the east side of the creek. -to The Neodesha Sun says of the Win- field report of a Standard man being there: "Mr. Evans, the Standard's agent here, says no such man is in the employ of the Standard so far as he knows and the Standard has no intention of drilling at -a Neodesha Register: Mr. and Mrs.

W. J. Lees are over from Chanute today packing up their household goods preparatory to breaking up housekeeping for a time, having rented their house. Mr. Lees is building rigs for the Prairie at Chanute and other points and Mrs.

Lees and the baby will board with him. They are at Chanute now. Buffalo Advocate: G. A. Simons, Coauute, shot the Hays well No.

4 the Prairie Monday evening. There was so much water in the hole at the time that it was difficult to tell whether the well was as good or bet than previous signs had indicated. Erie Sentinel: F. F. Patterson, representing a company of Ohio capitalist-1, has secured the lease of two or three thousand acres of land lyiug along the Neosho river in the south, east 1 art of this county and in Labette, and will begin drilling in 60 or days.

Holders iu the Chanute oil and gas field have been buying laud down on the big island for prospecting purposes, and a rich strike is expected down in that locality. Leg Broken by Fall ing Horse. Fred J. Foetisch, a farmer living near Carlton, on the Santa Fe, met witli a serious accident Wednesday morning. He had been helping Arch Piper drive a lot of mules to Piper's feed barn just nortli of Labette City, and while returning home, when near the O'Connor school house miles northwest of Parsons, his horse slipped and fell with him.

Foetisch's leg was broken in two places. He was taken to the home a farmer named O'Brien, where lie was given attention. He drove across Eailton yesterday, a distance of miles, and is now being cared for at home. Good second haud organs at Dawdy's Music store, Chanute.
